I love that the books shines light on racism. I hope that one day people will learn to love each other regardless of their skin color. Thanks for your review.

The review mentions many characters playing different roles and bringing different scenes which makes me feel like I should just get the book and read it already. Congrats to the book of the day.

Though Mixed Blessings by J.M. Muse is well written in explaining the plot, characters, setting, etc; the political atmosphere seems to be one sided and may give a wrong impression when it comes to certain group of people. If that is what the author was going for than they were successful. If you read this book with a neutral mindset, not leaning either way, than it would be a good read. If you have strong political views than it may get more emotion out of you than intended.

This review is great and reflects the tension of the book. I find this review very thorough and I find myself wanting to read the book.

This sounds like an interesting perspective of racism. Thank you for the good review.

I can’t say this book excites me much, despite your excellent review. However, you really seem to have enjoyed it for the most part, and so I’m sure it’s a well-written and worthwhile read for fans of this type of story. Many thanks for sharing your impressions.

I was a little confused about how Kimberly fit into the story and why the author had jumped to Kublai Khan so suddenly, or so it seemed to me. This could be interesting read and maybe I just need to get further into the story for it all to make sense. Thanks for the great review. 😊

Thank you for your thorough review of this book. While I enjoy mystery novels I don't think that this book will be a good fit for me. It sounds like the author misses some opportunities with the characters with this book and while I do agree that racial tensions are still prevalent today I don't think that this book would interest me despite the fact that I can relate being of mixed race myself.

I like your review and I have not come across any books like this one. I agree with your rating and the constructive criticisms that you gave in your review. I also like that you were able to enjoy reading this book to the extent that you imagined yourself as one of the characters. I think that a deeper dive into Kimberley's visit with her father and his new family in Mexico would have made the book better.

I don't like encounter subject of discrimination of any kind in books, movies or on TV, because I believe it holds too much space in our everyday live. I don't say it is not important, but I think it has no place in entertaining and relaxing activities like for example reading.

I loved this thorough review and how you synthesize the relevant information without spoiling anything about the story, thank you a lot! After reading 3 pages of the book, you realize this is going to be a wild ride. I started reading this morning, and I'm already halfway. The author gives you an impressive insight into cultural diversity and the lack of it.

We've come a long way from the days of slave trade, segregated schools, and Rosa Parks. However, the spirit of racism is very alive and actively threatening to tear the fabric of society whichever way it can.

Thanks to the author for crafting an enjoyable story that shines the light on such an important issue. Great review by the way!

I agree that Kimberly’s visit with family in Mexico was a wasted opportunity. A book like this should seek to present all sides of the equation, especially in a world that wants to assume “this or that.” For example, my Mother, as a teacher, did 20 questions with her class. Always famous people at the end. But if some one asked a yes or no question about race, they assumed the 2nd default in their mind. So they could never figure out Jackie Chan or Antonio Banderas. This missed opportunity to present another viewpoint sounds like suffering from the same fallacy.

I like the fact that this book shows racism sore than just black and white. Because the fact is it is racism everywhere and it is more or bigger than just black and white.
