I like that in spite of the obstacles, Janice went on to earn several degrees for herself and become a renowned journalist and mayor. Racism and sexism bring out the worst of us as human beings. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Love the review! I read the sample of this story and I can say that world is really cruel for the people of color. Although I feel like autobiographies are boring, your review convinced me otherwise.

The deprived life story of a selfless black woman who took the time to give a detailed and recorded history of her expriences of a personal pilgrimage about growing up as a black woman in an era, where being black and being a woman was a great disadvantage.

This story also speaks to the progress of civil rights and woman liberation, which brings me to the American dream, an as I in dulge myself deeper in this biography I am encourage with a sense of hope because it seeks to promote equal rights, equal opportunities to woman and people of color.

I have not been a fan of autobiographies and memoirs, but a recent book I read changed my mind. And I will be giving this a go. Added to my reading list.

It is sickening to know through this novel, during the 1950s and 1960s there was segregated south for people of color. The author was living there as a young girl. This memoir is encouraging everyone to chase the big American dream. Being born as a black, the author fought for her rights and became a successful political journalist. This novel is an eye-opener to American society. Congrats to the author on BOTD!

A story like this sounds very emotional. I am just glad that Janice was raised in the right manner by her mother. Differentiating between right and wrong is always the best.

An inspirational autobiography of a black woman who proved that the American Dream is still possible to achieve, and it is only possible through hardship and with a positive mindset.

I grew up in the segregated south, not far over the border in Louisiana from where the author lived. There were so many things she talked about that I identified with, right down to the KKK being a very real presence in the area. That she was able to rise so high given her beginnings is beyond admirable. I will certainly be finishing the book. Thanks for the in-depth review. Beautifully done.

'Official Review: From Liberty to Magnolia: In Search of the American Dream by Janice S. Ellis' is a reader's reactions to the book! The book seems to be a wholesome read as the ending of the author's life story is positive. The words of the review inspire me to be studious. They have a serene and lasting effect on my mind!

From Liberty to Magnolia: In Search of the American Dream by Janice S. Ellis sounds like a fascinating life story of the author. Am not a fun of autobiographies but am moved by this the fact that it's well-written and it's majorly talking about sensitive issues related to female gender. Great review.

It is admirable the author's strength to fight against racism and women's rights in order to overcome her condition and become a successful woman. This book seems to have an intense, educational, and riveting message which transmit some powerful learnings. Wonderful review! Thank you!

I have read much about racial discrimination. The color of one's skin could bring anathema to the person concerned. And if such a person happens to be a woman, that becomes a double whammy. For another discriminatory monster rears its ugly head -- sexual discrimination. The south could be said to be even on a milder brew when it comes to racism. The north, is I think, much worse. Could you still recall the Ku Klus Klan? Nazism could be the mother of all racism, but it is in faraway Germany, and hopefully, already extinct. Going back to the review, it sure splendidly accounted for the struggles of this black girl who made it big time, a truly from-rags-to-riches story. Inspiring. Thanks for your review.

Thanks for the review. I am currently not interested in reading an autobiography. So I will pass reading this book.

Janice S. Ellis' From Liberty to Magnolia: In Search of the American Dream is an #Inspirational #Memoir about the author's #Journey as an African-American woman living in America during the height of civil rights and women's liberation movements. It is a story of how she overcame #Racism and #Sexism.

Thanks for the review.
