I just know this book would move me to tears! Graphic depictions of war — especially when weaved between the personal narrative of a couple whom the reader is led to care about — can be tough to read. Thanks for the honest review.

I understand your points about the grammatical errors and the inconsistent spelling of the character's name ("Katy and "Katie"). I am glad that you liked the book overall though. Congrats to the author on the 3/4 rating.

My first thought after reading the sample and this review was “Downton Abbey.” I think this is going to be a great book and I look forward to reading more!

Thanks for a great review! I am putting this high on my want to read list. I love historical novels. I appreciate that this one is regarding the first world war. Most authors and history books as well focus more on the second WW. I have seen multiple books on the second WW but I, personally, have never found a novel about the first WW! I'm looking forward to reading this book.

I don't generally read historical novels, but this one struck me as quite possibly enjoyable. For some reason, I found Katy and her predicament to be intriguing. I think all of us can identify with feeling 'stuck' sometimes in a situation we would rather not be in. I look forward to reading the rest of the book! Thanks for the review!

The book cover is refreshing and beautiful and yet the novel presents a very emotional and heartbreaking journey for the main character; I hope there will be happiness for her at the end of her trip despite it being amidst the horrors of war.

The sounds like an intriguing book about WWI though I didn't really understand what the plot was from the review. I guess getting through the war? I don't really read war books but I'm sure the author is good.

This sounds like a great historical fiction book. I am finding myself torn on liking books of that era, as many deal with huge grief and tremendous loss. Even though I find I like those kind of books, it is still difficult to digest because I like to be emersed in their world. It's an emotional overhaul. I will be getting around to reading this though, as it sounds too good to pass up.

I feel that during that era of which world war I was in that the times in itself was hard for many people. It probably seemed so far fetched to have such big dreams during those times. I am curious to see how Katy faired through it all.

Reading about war is not my favorite thing to read, even though it sounds like from your review, that it is so much more then that! Sometimes the characters and emotions can carry a book and the parts that I don't t like are irrelevant.

Thanks for the review! Despite the many grammatical errors, I think I will add this to my summer reading list. I don't love blood and gore but it doesn't stop me from reading a book. This one sounds well written from your description and I can't wait to pick it up.

While the grammatical issues are a downfall for this book it still sounds like an engaging story. I love historical fiction novels and I am liking the fact that the author starts this story before World War One begins and then progresses through to the end. So we get a taste of the war as well as the impact it has on specific characters. I'm looking forward to checking this book out.

The book seems to give a personal account of how WWI affected Katy and Jem. Katy's character is described as one who likes to read and wants some adventure. The emotions from grief, suffering, and forgiveness found in the characters make readers more connected and involved in the story. It sounds like a good story that needs to be edited. I may give it a try.

This book sounds great. Katy longing for adventure and loving to read, sounds like a girl after my own heart. I love the detail of your review, it draws you in without giving anything away.
