It sounds like the book is about different timelines following the reincarnation of the characters. I like how you mentioned that the author wrote well and drew you into the story. I also think that I would feel the same as you about being disappointed by being jerked back to the present day after liking the story from a thousand years ago. But then, this may be a way for the readers to keep reading in hopes of returning to the previous story. Even though you mentioned that this book could be read as a stand-alone, it seems like it would be better to read the books one and two first. I wonder if Serena, Desiree, Ian, and Jacques' character stays the same in all timelines.Jbcitygirl wrote: ↑27 Apr 2019, 16:03 The first 17 chapters consist of events from almost a thousand years ago. The remaining chapters catapults you right back into the present day and age into the midst of a covert CIA operation. I was somewhat disappointed with the abrupt change to the current day, as I was just really settling in and enjoying the narrative around the Knights Templar. When I reached the end of the book, I was absolutely delighted to discover that this book is the third book in a series!

Then by chapters 4 and 5, I was intrigued and was bummed when the free sample was over.
3 out of 5 stars.
