I know what you mean. My whole family are Potter-heads. To think we wont get another book or film is disheartening. My dog made a tribute to Harry Potter on You Tube.

Harry Potter is one of my favorite books. When I was almost 13 I read the first series of the book. Then Harry became my dream character. I requested my uncle who has been migrated to U.S. to send me all of Harry series published and he. I was just like a crazy to get the books.

just saw this online:
Adult fans of J.K. Rowling can rejoice: She has a new novel coming, for grownups.

The kids will have to wait and see.

The author of the mega-selling "Harry Potter" series said Thursday she has an agreement with Little, Brown in the United States and Britain to publish her first adult novel. The title, release date and details about the novel, long rumored, were not announced.

I'm so excited for the new JKR. Harry Potter was my childhood, I'm hopelessly attached to those characters. I know from an adult perspective this new novel will probably shrivel in comparison to my nostalgia for Harry, but I'm still super excited.

Cheers,
Alyson

The first Harry Potter book came out when I was in the 6th grade (12 years old for those with different grade systems)... Ms. Jones homeroom class. She read that book to us at the end of every school day in the 10 minutes before class let out. She did the voices and everything.

Ms Jones was one of those teachers, the ones that inspire you big time. She looked like a a character out of a book herself! She made the story even more magical than it already was by adding her own personality into it, and when school let out for the summer I immediately went and bought the book with my allowance money. She hadn't finished reading it and I wanted to know what happened!!!

After that I was hooked. I bought every book the day it was released, read it within a week and then longed for the next one to come.

Though I can't say I'm the "ultimate" fan (I haven't reread the books, I can't recite line for line, I don't own a special edition wand, or go to the trivia games), I can say proudly I'm one of the firsts. My Fiance and I are even spending our Honeymoon at Universal Studios/Harry Potter World this December! It's going to be a very Harry Potter Christmas for everyone back home with all the souvenirs we're going to buy!

Harry Potter will always be a huge part of my childhood. From 6th grade to age 24 it was a huge deal, when the books were finished, the movies were being released. When the last movie released last year it was bittersweet, like my childhood was finally really ending. *sigh*

Oh! I'm going to be booking my tickets soon! I'm trying to find a time when both me and my kid sister is free - she loves HP as much as I do. Have a great time! :D

I really enjoyed all the books. HP was a series that kept surprising me all the time and the world in it was so detailed and felt almost real.

Better hurry up as most dates running up to summer holidays are already fully booked. We are having to go on a Friday (last day of term - oops!)

Love Harry Potter books and movies, but both for different reason. Also have to say I love ABC family a us TV channel for having a marathon of the movies this weekend.
Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.

lanedraven wrote:Harry Potter has been close to my heart for ages. I remember that the first time I read the first novel, we were both 11, and I felt so connected to the characters. In some ways I feel like I grew up with Harry.

I greatly enjoy Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as well as Deathly Hallows. Whereas the other books seem to follow a specific pattern, I like the ways these two in particular subvert and rework it.

I'm also a Dobby fan, although I am quite partial to Trunks as well.

I remember how crushed I was when it hit me that Harry Potter was over.... felt like the end of an era.
I have to agree here! I too was around the same age as the character, so was always in sync with the book releases.

I was quite disappointed when the series ended, so much so that I did not buy the last book out of protest (read a friends copy). Snape was my favourite character, so when that went down the drain... Gosh! Tears!

After the series ended, I was so sad that I branched out and found Fan Fiction... Some disturbing and talented writers in there. And the story line! Phew-wee!
