What type of genre am I looking for? Mystery? Does anybody know such a book (read description)?

I recently read a short version of Riddle of the Sands and I liked it. I’m looking for something similar, but with maybe a bit more action. I’m looking for an interesting story with mystery or with a puzzle. I do not want it to be a murder / crime mystery, nor do I want it to be filled with horror / violence, sex, etc. A mystery about anything else, for example a place, people, etc. Just not crime-related. Does anybody know such a novel? Which genre & subgenres am I looking for?

Do you have any other suggestions? I’m not a fan of dragons and lots of fantasy or any novel with religious associations.
