Review by Scrubs -- You, The People by Pablo Digenio

What an amazing read "You, the people" was!
The author, Pablo Digenio, gets your attention from the first line of the first story. You start reading the first few lines but then it turns into a clear, vivid, movie-like experience. There are no more words, you are sucked into a world where you are walking around with the protagonist, your emotions surrendered to the author. If he wants you to hate Rebecca, you obey. If he wants you to feel nauseated by Mike's lifestyle, you feel the bile in your mouth.
The book has on it's side, an indulging, nail-biting, well paced story telling experience. Each story awakens a new emotion that you may not have experienced in real life.
But, since the stories have no real connection between them, it gives a chance for the reader to keep it down with no fear of losing continuity.
What may not work for it, is the gory, grotesque and graphic scenes in some parts, that are not for the faint-hearted. Also, contrary to real life, only the dark side of the characters is highlighted, making you feel like they deserved what they got, without a second thought. This would not have been an issue had the title not referred to the people. Had the characters been more layered, the book would have evolved into a more thought provoking, personal read.
Nevertheless, this book should be the first choice for a short indulging read, for people who aren't used to reading hours at a stretch and for people who believe in Karma. I suggest you not to read this right before you sleep, just saying.
I rate this book 4 out of 4, as it is well edited, the language is engaging, the characters are well written for the short appearance they make and it gives only as much as is needed.
The book leaves you feeling stumped and hoping for a sequel.

esp1975 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 11:54 So this is a book of short stories? I think it is a hallmark of a great writer if a book of short stories with no story-line connection between them can leave a reader wanting a sequel. I am not certain this is a book for me, as I am not a fan of focusing on the dark side of humanity, but your enthusiasm for the book definitely comes through in the review and will certainly convince some people to pick up this book.
Thank you

Well, this has put me off. But I'm sure others might enjoy it. It sounds interesting. Great review. What may not work for it, is the gory, grotesque and graphic scenes in some parts, that are not for the faint-hearted.
