I don't think God has left us alone and I believe He cares very much. Hatred has been bred in our country as people fight over who is right and who is wrong. I think He is waiting and giving us a chance to do what is right ourselves before He intervenes.
I still have problems with this question. Why did God make cancer and other diseases?

I don't believe God made cancer and other diseases, man did by adding so much into our food that shouldn't be there; polluting our environment; using fertilizers with deadly additives; medications with harmful ingredients, etc. God gave us free will to choose our paths and part of that is, do we choose to take care of ourselves, or do we conform to the pressures of society and our friends and do harmful things to ourselves (ie: drugs, alcohol, fast food, etc) for which we pay the consequences. I have been as guilty as the next person in living an unhealthy lifestyle, so I can't blame God for any afflictions I suffer. Disease is not a punishment from God, it is a consequence of our actions. That is just my opinion. And I, myself don't understand why newborns and children have diseases, but our unhealthy lifestyles and environmental pollution effects the innocent and helpless too.

You took the words right out of my thumbs. God bless you.

You're so right. The Bible cannot be understood by the human mind.

But do these stories still work today? Or are they just read for hobby and enjoyment? Stories like the ones in I Will Make of Thee a Great Nation

In my opinion, they no longer have a role in human life, because our history has changed a lot. Now these stories are important for literal aspects. Also they're noticeable because they are beautiful and probably have some tips. But in our view of the world they have little effect.
Dear, these stories still work. God doesn't make mistakes. You can see Old Testament prophecies being fulfilled in our days. What does that tell you?
See, if you try to understand the Bible by the human carnal mind, you won't benefit from the life in the Word.

These ols testaments really has negligible effect on humans now-a-days. Those who believes in God, finds him supporting them. Those who simply believe in believing like believing in positive energy (GOD) just believs and know that they have to work to gain what they want. God help those who help themselves.

Definitely No, Our God never leaves us alone, He always takes care of us and protects us, we are created in his image and likeness, we are a small part of his Creation.

God did not create evil. Just as darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of God.
- Albert Einstein
I believe what Einstein forgot to add at the end is: "...in our hearts". God doesn't force his way into us, we must be willing to let Him in. When it comes to talking about the Bible, this holly book is incredibly transcendental but not an easy read for sure, some people believe the correct way to read it is by starting with the New Testament rather than the Old Testament(which is harder). Books like I Will Make of Thee a Great Nation make the Old Testament easier to understand and get the hidden lessons it has in its ancestral writing.
I have also read Imitacion de Cristo by Thomas de Kempis, I highly recommend it for those who are willing to follow through Christ's examples. :D

The Old Testament's lessons are still applicable to the world we live in today. It's up to us to remove the dust from these lessons and apply them to the situations around us today.

The Bible is very relevant to all who believes in it, and their-in lies your answer. Just like medical journals are only relevant to doctors and those seeking answers to their own medical problems. The Bible will only be relevant if you read it with purpose, so read it to learn about God, or to receive answers. Then consider what you have read through prayer and you will discover the relevance of the Bible.

Sayings such as "History repeats itself" prove that there is nothing that is happening now that has hasn't happened before. God is very much a part of history now as before, and nothing happens that He has not ordained. And what better way to learn of the future than to look into the Bible. This is reflects what the BOTM is all about.

There is good in bad and bad in good.I say God has always been with me or with us per say.I am taking time to analyze certain events and happenings in my life since I was born.I at one chose to abandon God since I thought I had been wiser.Having mended my ties with him,I say God has shown me that God has always and will always be with.

I agree with you, the way one reads a Bible has a huge impact on how they view it and what they make of the stories told inside.
