Matthew the Massive Moth

Post by Ben Moore »

N’yeeeeaaaaowww
N’yeeeeaaaaowww
N’yeeeeaaaaowww
Brrr’t’rt

4:30 in the morning
And I’m not sure
If there’s someone in my room
Making zoom zoom aeroplane noises
Or if it’s something more sinister

There’s a flutter
A flutter at the window shutter
A murmur
A mutter of wings

It’s Matthew the Massive Moth
And this moth wants my cloth
The cloth of my clothes
My socks and pants
My shirts and shorts

But by the law of all the courts
Matthew the Massive Moth
Is intruding

I leap out of bed
And head into the hall
Flick on the light
And call
“Matthew, Matthew, out you fly”
And zoop zip zoop
Matthew the Massive Moth zooms by
Out of the room
Drawn by the bright, burning bulb

I slip back into my bedroom
And slam the door
Matthew won’t be troubling me anymore

But then comes the dawn
And Matthew the Massive Moth
Is nowhere to be seen
“Matthew, oh Matthew”
“I’m sorry if I was mean”
“Come back”

But he does
Quite suddenly
And he makes me jump
And I accidentally smash him against the wall with a book

I quited like this poem, we have all been awoken by some sort of fly or moth that is buzzing around. Its well written and the ending is quite fun. It was fun and quirky

Thanks! I tend towards sillier writing 😂

Yes sometimes poems can be a bit dark on here so I enjoy the more funnier ones from time to time

I'd love this to be an illustrated children's book! Or a Mothman origin story...either way, honestly.
