The title of this book is quite original. I'm glad to know the content of the book itself makes justice to its title. Finding good self-help books nowadays is not too difficult but finding and outstanding one it is. This book seems to help the reader analyze him/herself and determine what success is for him/her and then work towards that objective and stay focus.

I am not usually a big fan of self-help books, but your review really sold this one to me! I love a really well-organized book, and the fact that it has 4 parts, and they each are dedicated to something specific (even if the first two feel repetitive), makes me really happy!

I like that the book seems to emphasize that taking control of your life isn't easy, and will take work. That's so important! Sounds like it balances the importance of encouragement and realism.

I tend to be weary of "tough love" books - here's the deal. Life dumps on you enough, and a good chunk of people don't need someone to continue dumping on them during their few moments of free time while they try to relax. When I'm reading, I prefer encouragement and support, so I usually roll my eyes at "tough love" self-help books - I'm sure they help some people, but for the most part, life has enough hills without that.

Books that say "life is hard, kiddo" or "you're responsible for your own life" usually come off condescending or insulting to me. I'm already aware that "life is hard, kiddo" - because I've made hard decisions from a young age. "You're responsible for your own life" - thank you, I'm aware I'm an adult. It's not telling me anything I don't already know, I don't need to be told "life is hard, kiddo" during my leisure time. If it was as easy as "Change the way you think!", everyone would be doing it. Tough love books are a waste of time for me, personally - I'm tough enough on myself as it is. I respond much better to positivity than negativity. It's a much more powerful motivator for me, personally, than negativity, because there's already enough negativity in life.

YET the vibe I get from your review tells me that this book tends a careful balance between a reality check and encouragement, which is hard to tow. It's important to be realistic but to also be encouraging, and if the book does a good balance of that, which it seems to do from your examples, I think that's absolutely fantastic. I like that the author motivates through their own experiences, like noting that it wasn't the end of the world that they lost out on a dream car in order to save money for the next opportunity. It humanizes the experience and theme. "Hey, this wasn't easy, but here is what I did." What works for one person doesn't work for everyone, and that's important, but I like that the book tries to be realistic while also supporting the reader. It's honest without being mean or condescending, which is incredibly important in motivating your readers. I like that.

Thanks for your review! Very informative!

I found the first few pages, slightly interesting, to admit disagreement woth the writers opinion is to admit that he is right. For this reason he has you skillfully trapped into agreeing with him. I did find that the work thus far is well edited and so far no profanity, that is a refreshing break.
