I appreciate the honest feedback about the cliff hanger. Because of that, I may have to give this book a pass. Honestly, I am not one to watch TV shows or read books that do not finish the plot and stop short.

These world-building novels often worry me. Unless they're done very well, just one or two issues can prove to be their undoing. It looks as though the fact that the author leaves out particular character details might just be the issue that has his world crumbling down around him. I might give it a go anyway, I feel that reading a novel that ultimately fails, or that at least does not succeed in the way it tries to, can help one hone one's own craft, knowing what sort of pitfalls to avoid at the very least.

I have previewed today's book of the day (Steele Chronicles by Andrew Utsogn) and was only able to read a few pages. I did not like the strong language in the opening of the book. I also found some details to be questionable for the time period presented. The year is 5568 and I find it alarming that the characters would know the Wild West references. I am sure the book appeals to some but not to me. Congratulations on being the book of the day.

Thanks for the insightful review. I was not very keen on reading this book after reading the sample so I appreciate your honest review. I won't be reading this one! Three plot lines with no resolution to any of them, not even a hint for the next book, would have frustrated me if I had read this book without knowing it would leave me hanging. I agree with you that even books in a series can end with something to satisfy you! Great review!

I enjoy reading science fiction novels, but the book seem to have numerous gaps that need to be taken care of, such as the grammatical errors, the book's format and that the ending is not plausible. Additionally, complex science sounds too difficult for me to read and get the concept. I'll skip the book. sorry.

But the fact that there is a political line in the book and the three plotlines in the book seem to be left hanging without a conclusion is putting off a bit. Thanks for your review! The premise of three distinct plots sounds interesting, but I would have to agree with your sentiments. It's often difficult to weave them together to provide a satisfying resolution for readers. I am curious to learn more about Carl's background as a "xeno-wrangler." The different worlds colonized by humans also should prove interesting. It's a shame about the errors.

It's obvious that you put a lot of thought into what you wished to say and why you were holding back a couple of stars from the rating of this book. It was interesting that you sought to encourage the author that any shortcomings in this story were correctable and he could have a truly great story to his credit. You complimented him for constructing a detailed future-world but then mentioned that his readers needed more of those details which were so familiar to him. I found that good advice for myself as well.

So I came away from your review thinking I might give this one a skip but looking forward to the future and what this author will and can produce. I love this type of genre so I will definitely tuck his name into my memory. (It was Bob something or other, right?)

From the tone of this review, this book sounds like a typical epic military science fiction novel. I enjoy these kind of works, with interesting characters and worlds to read about. They rarely end in the first book and the ends of various plots continue well into the books that follow. I think I will enjoy this book, and look forward to reading the follow-up volumes.
