A spy story set in Israel and neighboring places sounds intriguing. It seems like an interesting read with some characters with depth. Great review.

Thanks for your review! It sounds like the book is a little too biased toward Israel for my taste. With subjects like this, I always worry about both sides of the dispute being too negatively or positively represented. I'm curious to learn more about Walid and see what he ultimately decides to do. I also appreciate how the author is able to seamlessly switch perspectives.

Shame, I would have liked to read this intriguing storyline, but unfortunately Mossad, desert and terrorism are certain deal breakers for me. Sorry that I will have to pass this one, but congrats on BOTD!

I love a good espionage thriller, and I'm glad you took the time to point out what saves this one from being typical. Thanks to your review and that intriguing excerpt I saw, I am keen to give this book a read. Thank you for your detailed review.

The multiple perspectives will surely aid this genre. Villains evil for the sake of evil get old, and they get old fastest when we've seen similar villains that were just as good, if not better. Seeing a villains perspective is neat because we can see why they are evil, whether it is something they feel called to do or some specific event pushed them into the direction of "the dark side" of life. The new Jack Ryan series seems to borrow this idea, and I believe it works quite well for a genre that tends to favor action more than surprise developments.

Walid's struggle between his beliefs and the truth he sees with his eyes is an interesting thing to follow in this book. I'm going to give this a try for the subject it approaches because it's one of utmost importance.
