Hey there! The chalk man by C. J. Tudor was an excellent read. It's a modern horror and crime novel, with many unexpected twists and turns. Back in 1986, Eddie witnesses a gruesome accident at a local fair. During the terror, he meets Mr Halloran, an unusually pale new villager, about to start teaching at his school. He talks to Eddie about his childhood, how his friends would leave secret coded messages for each other using chalk. But little did Eddie and his closest friends know, those chalk men would follow them way into adulthood.

If that's not convinced you enough, Stephen King himself reviewed it and said "If you like my stuff, you'll love this"

You might want to look into Richard Matheson's horror stories. He was also a screenwriter for The Twilight Zone and adapted Duel.
Ciao :)

Nick Cutter has a book called The Deep that has been recommended by Stephen King. When I read it, I could see some inspiration of the type of horror from Stephen King.

Exactly what I was thinking. I loved The Fireman.

I know this isn't a sophisticated literary recommendation, but I've found some gems on creepypasta :D It's good for short stories and a few of the contributors there are genuinely talented writers! I love the story there written from the point of view of a national park ranger.

I confess I didn't know creepypasta. Makes me think of a sort of 21st century version of 19th century's Penny Dreadful. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

Swan Song by Robert McCammon was my favorite post war dystopia read. I actually read it 3 times and it is NOT a short book. Get it and read it!! I was hoping it to become a TV Series, like The Stand. It's THAT good. Good vs. Evil at it's best.
