I like the sound of this cross-generational tale of people making their lives anew in a foreign land. I'm looking forward to reading it in full. Thanks for a great review!

This book is really thought-provoking as it is difficult to uproot oneself and move to a completely different place, especially when it is a different cultural environment.

This book serves as a reminder to us that it is not easy to move to a new land and try to learn a new language and culture. It sounds as though the author did an amazing job of telling her father's, mother's and her own stories. Thanks for a wonderful review!

To both the author and reviewer of today's BOTD, bravo!! This is definitely a must-read for me! Well-written and highly-rated, this multi-generational memoir takes readers on a journey across time and place, from Spain to the US, through four interconnected stories, each one portraying an individual in search of a better tomorrow.

To the author, thank you for sharing your family history with us. Your personal stories not only help readers understand the challenges and setbacks faced by immigrants yesterday and today, but they also inspire others to keep moving forward along their own paths of self-discovery.

To the reviewer, thank you so much for introducing me to this this book and keep up the amazing work!! :-)

Leaving one's country to face the unknown speaks about bravery and fierceness in living, of confidence and determination. Immigrating is everywhere and relatable so a lot will be excited to dig into this novel. Happy reading to all!

I'm not really interested in true stories based on immigrants and their acclimatization processes. However my attention was piqued at the mention of Carla becoming a Jehovah's witness, as I am one. I'd like to understand the circumstances surrounding her decision and whether she remained. I'm also curious as to if the faith impacted positively on her daughter, the author. Thanks for the review.

I like memoirs and biographies as a rule, but unfortunately I must say that the subject matter chosen by author for this book is somewhat unappealing for my tastes. As I see it this is family saga concerning around one event and I have zero interest in delving in it. Sorry.

Although I like reading memoirs this book doesn't seem to click with me. Perhaps, because I'm not that interesting in immigration theme.

I know if several people who would like to emigrate to the US, so I will be interested to read this book and to recommend it to them. I think that from a historical point of view this book also sounds interesting and enjoyable to read. Of course the story about the Jehovah's Witnesses does not surprise me because Christian cults tend to try and recruit people in difficulties! This sounds humorous to read as well. Thank you for a comprehensive and enjoyable review.

Seems like a unique idea and perspective, at least when it comes to a book.

Immigration is a hot topic and everyone wants to move to a new country to start a new life which may result in a good experience or a bad one and I also like how the story linked the generational experience together.... Great book and thanks

It is so amazing to see how immigrants can struggle in a new culture, but adapt well and become successful. Great idea for a book!

My mother was born in Italy before her family moved to the USA. I enjoy hearing her stories about our family history and what it was like to move here and assimilate. I also really enjoyed Frank McCourt's stories on the same subject. This book sounds like it's along the same lines.
