Re: Reading Challenges! What Challenges Can You Beat?
Sounds fun!gregs317 wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 15:36 I'd like to do a personal challenge. For example, I might do 5 books of varying genres over a 6-month period. Maybe something like this:
1 book about pets.
1 Cozy mystery.
1 historical novel.
1 young adult themed book.
1 book about traveling/foreign culture.
I'm not sure if I am ready to commit yet, just brainstorming for the moment. But I am somewhat interested in the categories listed above (for a challenge). I welcome any thoughts or ideas you might have.
Do you have any specific books in mind?

And for a historical novel, I'm curious about "Eleanor and Hick: The Love Affair That Shaped A First Lady". This is the novel about Eleanor Roosevelt and her lesbian relationship with Lorena Hickok.
Actually, I may need to bump the Eleanor book up to the next one that I read.

Please, I like that someone else is curious about my choice, lol.
So, I just bought a copy of "Eleanor and Hick: The Love Affair That Shaped a First Lady", by Susan Quinn. I will try to wait a few days in case anyone sees this and expresses an interest in reading it along with me.

I have tried it before but never completed it. I intend to try this year too because otherwise I always only read fantasy and YA fiction.

You have absolutely GOT to read Stephen Fry's "Mythos"! Not only is his writing delightful, but it's incredibly well researched and he does include some analysis on how Greek mythology has influenced life and words in general.Gravy wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 04:49It will all focus on greek mythology (including facts and links to more information for convenience) and be a type of scavenger hunt.
It should work for all types of readers (not just fantasy fans).
I'm going to try to have it ready by February.
I thought it might be fun to examine how much greek mythology has influenced literature and storytelling.
