Everytime I see this thread I'm tempted to reply "as little as possible but as much as necessary" .... there now I've done it & that's more than enough for today

I would take a guess then Fran that you work for the government? Sounds like a typical US government employee!

I am a Registered Nurse, and have been for almost 30 years. I currently work as a transport nurse, where I escort my patient to where they need to go. It is not unusual for me to travel up to 400kms a day. This job does give me ample time for reading however.... always a plus :D And yes, I do work for the goverment.

I'm retired. Before I retired, I was in the USArmy for 2 years, was a weldor/fitter for 18 years(served my apprentice-
ship at Todd's shipyard in San Pedro, CA). Welded pipe, tanks(containers), bridges, destroyers, missile frigates,
and aluminum fishing boats. The last 22 years I drove a cab in Las Vegas. The first year I drove, I picked up
a fare at McCarren Airport and drove him to a bank, which he robbed. I didn't know this until he got back in the
cab and pulled a gun out of his briefcase and told me to drive him back to the Airport. Before we got to McCarren,
he jumped out of my cab and got in another one at a stoplight. 3 hours later, he was shot dead in front of the Flamingo. I was so impressed by what I'd seen that night, that I drove for another 21 years. THE END

I am retired having worked clerical jobs for many years. The last was 15years for a Mack truck dealership. After I retired my daughter had her third child (unplanned) and I spent 6 years doing daycare for him. I think that's been my favorite job. I've had lots of fun with Chad. Nothing nearly as exciting as dindindin.

My account of the incident in which I was the wheelman for a bank robber is true. What isn't true is that I found it
so entertaining that I drove for another 21 years. I drove for another 21 years because I like to eat, read books,
take vacations, and join ONLINE BOOK CLUBS! The cab company gave me a week off to count my blessings. I did.
I was very lucky. A lot of LV cabdrivers haven't been so lucky. Some have been murdered by "thrill killers", sick
people who do it just to see what it's like. Cab driving today is hard work(five 12 hour shifts a week), for low pay,
hostility(everyone hates you, even your dog) and ungodly traffic. The next time a cab driver
tells you how exciting cab driving is, tell him to shut up. You know better.

My dad drove a cab for a couple years in Spokane. The most exciting thing that ever happened to him was that one time he had to deliver a baby. He finally quit, he hated it.

I had a chance at an interesting job at one time, I was staying with some friends and we were out of work and at that time there was a bad recession in the northwest and jobs were scarce. A neighbor worked in a mortuary and he said we could get a job washing dead bodies at the mortuary. We went down there to check it out, the guy showed us the operation how it worked, you would put the stiff on this wheel thing and lower it into a tub of water and wash it off and put this powder on it and put it on a gurney and wheel it into another room where they finished the job. That wasnt the only thing we would do, the job included maintenence, yard work, stuff like that. I was thinking about taking the job, but luckily another job came up so I didnt take it. My friend worked there for a while, he thought it was great. He was kind of weird anyway.

I don't have a job, so I'm going to do a random My Chemical Romance quote: "I never told you what I do for a living".
"I was still sitting there, waiting to die, waiting to fossilise, waiting for the coffee in the kitchen to evolve enough to make a cup of itself and bring it through to me, when the phone rang."
