Help!!!!

Post by blue_diamond21 »

Ok, I've been driving myself mad trying to find a thread on the site. I can't remeber the name but it's a specific post I'm looking for. Someone recommended a book (true story) about a man that was struggling for freedom, was tortured.....my mind goes a bit blank here but I think the man it is about was african or indian.

I know there is little chance of anyone knowing what I'm babbling about but it sounded really good (in their explanation not mine) and I really want to know what it is!!!

I think the post was written in response to a recommendation for a similar book....I know I'm being quite useless here!

You might be thinking of one of the books I recommended in a previous thread. It was probably one of these two:

"I Refuse to Die: My Journey For Freedom" by Koigi wa Wamwere -- the autobiography of a Kenyan human rights activist who was imprisoned and tortured. Eventually he won his freedom and became a member of parliament in his country.

"What Is The What" by Dave Eggers -- a novel based on the experiences of a Sudanese refugee escaping his homeland in the midst of civil war. He gets shuffled from one refugee camp to another before finally coming to America. After arriving his is robbed at gunpoint in his apartment and struggles to overcome his feelings as an outsider in the U.S.

I recommend both of these books highly, so check them both out if you get the chance. I hope one of these was the book you were thinking of! :D

I'm glad that I could help! I'm looking forward to hearing your impression of the books afterwards. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! :D
