What a pleasant surprise it was when mom decided to take us all to Sri Lanka for a holiday! We didn’t quite realize how much of a treat it was til we arrived. Apart from the warm weather, we found out that we were staying in our very own seaside cottage, standing on our very own stretch of soft, warm, golden sands. Oh! I couldn’t help but lead the others in lying lazily in the warm sunshine while licking on ice cream cones! “Is there any chance of playing detective next to this clear, sparkling, expansive, blue ocean?” I thought to myself.

Inca, the head of Inca & Company Detective Agency, is spoiling for yet another round of detective work in Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R. F. Kristi. Almost by instinct, she knows whenever there's some good time and great company some mischief is bound to happen. But… what will happen this time that will require Inca and the gang’s world-renowned sleuthing skills?

And speaking of the gang, what a bunch of wonderful characters they are led by the illustrious Queen of kitties, Inca. Fromage, meanwhile, never tires of deflecting attention away from Inca, often at great danger to himself. Then there is the smug beauty Cara: the human wannabe; but, what would the gang do without Terrance? He’s the definitive epitome of the good that results when doggies and kitties come together. Next, there’s the team’s very own intelligent teddy bear, Charlotte. When not offering her opinion, Charlotte is often seen hiking a ride on someone’s back. Last but not least, there are Monk and Polo, ain’t these two just cute?

Moreover, I liked the fact that the book’s setting in Sri Lanka is closely connected to its plot. It helped a lot that the family was holidaying in a beautiful seaside village, and that Sri Lanka boasts of various cultural sites that would be of interest to kids and their parents. Besides, the story’s chatty tone reflects the lively and talkative nature of Inca as she prods her team for clues to the mystery puzzle. Furthermore, the bold and bright images that adorn the book, featuring Inca and the gang in various holiday poses, enhances a kid’s sense of adventure and well-being.

As I conclude, I found nothing negative about this book, as even it's exceptionally well-edited. As a result, I recommend the book for kids in third grade and below. Additionally, there are, on occasions, some difficult words and situations which may need a kid to consult their parent or teacher: for example, the title of the book, “serendipity,” and what is meant by a “UNESCO World Heritage Site.” Finally, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars to reflect how much I enjoyed reading this flawless and interesting book.

This would definitely be an interesting and educational book for children, if nothing else, to learn about Sri Lanka. Thank you for a wonderful review!
