Have just been hearing about a book called "Titanic" Survivor: The Memoirs Of Violet Jessop Stewardess. Sounds really good, as the title suggests Violet, the daughter of Irish parents who emigrated to Argentina survived not only the Titanic but the sinking and collisions on other ships in a long career in which she circumnavigated the globe twice. She died in 1971 and her memoirs have been published......I'll try and get a copy. :D

Ill have to tell my grandson about that, altho he may have read it. He is nuts about anything to do with the Titantic.

Violet Jessop was an amazing woman ... imagine surviving the Titanic & then spending the rest of your life working on other ships, the lady had guts for sure or perhaps she just felt certain however she died it wouldn't be by drowning.

There are some amazing stories of people who survived the Titanic .... just goes to prove you can't dodge your fate!
I like the one about the lady from a small Mayo village who insisted on getting out of a lifeboat to go back and retrieve her new hat, she apparently got on a later lifeboat and was rescued ... the first lifeboat was never recovered!

I got a message on the PS3 online games boards lastnight from an old friend off these forums, some of you may remember Stinkin Fascist, a hyperactive 18yr old girl who was always breaking one bone or another! Havent seen her in ages and she says Hi to everyone, I must ask her how her mad buddy Laci is doing. Glad she is still alive anyway. :D

It's great to hear Fascist is well ... Laci can't be too far away, they were a sort of 'package'. Now if you could track down Swing it would be great to hear how life is with her. :)

Ya i really enjoyed Swing's posts, shame she isnt around anymore, maybe she will get the urge to return one day who knows. I must check my replies and I will send on your best wishes to Fascist. Their combined trip to Ireland may be on the back burner, I suspect

Hey Everyone. Everything went good in contest! We received a Superior rating (highest rating) and were the Honorable Mention (2nd place) in our site. So even though a week ago we were horrible and didn't have our dance done we still managed to get our stuff together! :D

Saw a great news item today about a book van in Sydney who supply books to the homeless. It is called sidewalk books. The van pulls up in the evenings in different locations in the city and put books on the sidewalk. The homeless sort through and take what interests them. No cost and they can keep it or bring it back, no problem. The books are new realeases a lot new donated by local book sellers as well as classics. One homeless man has an interest in Einstein and they try to accomodate that. It has made such a difference to these men and women. One man said a lot of effort is made to feed and clothe them which they appreciats but no one has thought before to help feed their minds. This story really moved me

Lovely story, Primrose. A lot of people think homeless people are dull and unintelligent people when in fact some of them could put a university professor to shame! They just got very unlucky in life and its great to hear of stories like this where their intellect is respected and they are given books to read and ponder over. :D

It has made such a difference is these mens lives, there faces just lit up when talking about the books they have had the opportunity to read. You are so right SKM there are many on the streets with a higher education but life has dealt them some cruel blows. I was so impressed that the books offered are new or in good condition and recently published instead of the dregs discarded by others. One man was quotd as saying," a good book gives me comfort and focus. Makes me feel alive". Awesome.
