Did any other character relationship stand out to you?

I think this is more of a suspense/action genre than romance. Tom and Kelly lacked the spark that I expected, considering they are newly married. I felt like their connection was missing something. I like Sharon and Steve. They seemed to have more of a connection than Tom and Kelly.

I wouldn't put this book in a romance genre. Maybe suspense/action. There was hardly any romance in it. Except for Kelly and Tom being married, and the possible relationship between Sharon and Steve. Speaking of Tom and Kelly's marriage I didn't feel the connection between them. I did love the relationship Kelly had with her brother Mike. I think that was my favorite relationship in the book.
Although I have not read the novel, I noticed that in some novels where the characters are already married, their romantic connection isn't always as intense as stories with budding relationships.

Honestly, I felt that Kelly and Mike had a way more authentic relationship than Kelly and Tom. The latter definitely could have used more development.

I also felt, when Tom made a comment about Kelly ( in chapter 9) about why did he wait for finally be married after she serves him all night and then coffee in the morning, very off-putting about him and their relationship in general. I don't know but that just bothered me.

You have a good point. But I was thinking more in terms of this not being particularly romance novel despite their connection or marriage.

I can't say I was particularly invested in the romance side of things, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The novel is far more plot-driven than character-driven, leaning towards action and suspense instead of relationships between characters. I don't have any specific complaints per se, I just didn't find the romance engaging.

I like the way the author presented the bond between the newlyweds in the book. It is up to the reader to think that the couples romantic life is already sugarcoated with the word 'honeymoon.'
I am not for erotic romance, or anything like that so I mistakenly passed on this book. But, with your comment I am intrigued again. I look forward to reading about their teamwork, and the newlyweds. Thanks. :)

I vote with the majority. This is definitely not a romance. Tom and Kelly may be on their honeymoon, but they act as though they've been married for 20 years. On the other hand, it seems like a good solid marriage, and they get along well. Nothing wrong with that.

Reynaa wrote: 01 Dec 2019, 14:50 I agree, Tom and Kelly's relationship seemed a bit flat. I think there is just too much going on with the rest of the story so their relationship isn't well developed.

I liked Sharon and Steve's relationship, there wasn't much to it but that makes more sense because it was a new relationship. I love their banter and wit, though.
I was really hoping to see how the events impacted the new marriage of Tom and Kelly and I didn't get any of that. They had no development in their relationship, and I agree that it was super flat.

They really did not have the relationship of newlyweds. It was rather strange. It also didn't seem to be impacted by all the action going on.

Sharon and Steve were more interesting, relationship-wise. I feel like Tom and Kelly being on their honeymoon was just a convenient plot device more than anything.

I agree with you on Tom and Kelly's relationship. I wish there had been more development there. I personally enjoyed Steve and Sharon's relationship better because I was really able to feel a connection forming between them.

I agree with your observations and remarks above. I wouldn’t club these relationships between characters as “romance” either. However, I did enjoy reading about their bond with each other!
