A book about an African-American woman and her children seems to be interesting.

Thank you for the great review.

An African-American woman teaching her kids how to cope with racial discrimination sounds like an inspiring effort. I wouldn't enjoy the Scriptural references, but I'm sure they are inspiring for some. I'm glad it held together on character development and editing as well. Thanks for the review!

I have read several books on the lives of African Americans, and most of them lay stress upon the value of education for the advancement of their communities. They also mention about juvenile delinquency, single-parent families, and how women protagonists train their children to cope with racial discrimination. Neal includes all these sociological themes, but he seems to be relatively more innovative in the endeavor.
I've noticed this too and I understand the importance these topics have for the African American community. I wonder what you mean with an innovative approach. I'll guess I'll have to read the novel to find out!
Thank you for such a compelling review!

This book seems to deal with a lot of issues facing the black community. I am not in the target audience for this book, but I appreciate the author's efforts in addressing these issues. However, the graphic nature of this book is a turn off for me wanting to read it.

An entertaining and fast-paced story sounds thrilling. I find the question on the cover page intriguing, "What is your life in a mirror?" I will read the book.

Mirrors of life is a well-articulated, fast-paced, fictional story which focuses on the various kinds of issues faced by the African American such as racial discrimination and the like. I find the title of this book misleading though. I am curious to read the remainder of this story. Congratulations for being the book of the day!

Graphic sexuality is usually a repulsive word for me in any write-up. But I must say thank you for the review. It was awesome.

The fast pace is to my liking too, it is like I see a movie, not read a book. The fact that the mirror in the title is not enough justified in the content of the book, like a failed or neglected metaphor, is a minus. The author might consider changing the title and paying more attention when he titles his next books.
The name "Mister" hurts my ear, even if I heard of worse, like "Television set" being used in real life.
A sensible review!

This book seems very different to the ones I usually read, but your review has piqued my interest. Coming from India I have only heard of racial discrimination on fictional television series and even in them it is usually just part of the story and not much light is shed upon it. I am very interested in reading this book mainly because you mention how it stresses on education.

An exciting novel by an African American about people in his world and their aspirations and challenges. It sounds very exciting and it is interesting that you think that this could be material for a movie. I have reviewed many books in this genre and like all of these it seems that this book also has graphic violence and erotic scenes, which would make it unsuitable for children or for sensitive readers. I enjoyed your review and the book sounds entertaing to read.

As an African-American woman, I must say that most Blacks have not become desensitized to the violence perpetrated against us in the form of racism or to the much misused and misrepresented black-on-black crime. We have simply developed internal mechanisms to deal with our anger and grief. We also rely on our faith and family connections to help us deal with our pain and keep our families strong. I am disappointed that the title isn’t fully integrated into the story. And I’m not fond of cliffhangers, so that is another negative.

Unfortunately, I don't have any interest in the subject matter of this book and therefore I will have to pass it, despite how good it seems in review. But I would like to congratulate author with reaching BOTD and wish all luck!
