E. R. Barr's first volume on the Conor Archer series entitled Roan has set a different standard for me when it comes to the fantasy genre of myths and lore. I would love to see this book come to life in the cinemas.

Roan is about an ordinary young boy named Conor Archer, who has no idea about who and what he really is until certain events unfolded one night. He was bitten by the hand by an unknown creepy man in a leather jacket he met a mysterious woman by the fountain who told him to lie down by the willow trees, his mother passed away, he needed to start anew in a quiet town with a connecction to his past and so on. There's just too much going on in his life for one night and for a short span of time. If you are wondering what really awaits him, this is the moment you should give the pages of this book a turn.

This is a must read and a must watch out series. Barr has creatively spinned a complete package as it is adventure filled, magical, mysterious and so many more rolled into one which will leave you gripping on every word. The plot is astounding and you'd find it real engaging so I dare say brace yourself for a roller coaster ride as you explore the story.

I could say, I am hooked and thrilled to have read this first installment. If this is going to be the pace and run for the entire series, this will be a sure hit. The entirety of the book is easy to understand and is in no way verbose. This is simplicity explained at its finest but the author managed to incorporate vivid descriptions to put emphasis on the scenes and beauty of the events. There is a definite zeal to it as the story unravels in one's imagination.

I love the development of the characters because the author didn't just focus on our main protagonist Conor, but he ensured that he gave each one amazing introductions which will make you love or hate the characters. There is a sweet and bitter take on them, which provides balance to the story as its not all about the plot sometimes but how the people in it grow and become memorable to readers and how they really come to life.

I highly commend the author for the superb quality of writing. This book deserves nothing but the highest rating a reviewer can give which is a 4 out of 4 stars. I only noticed one typographical error, the word 'ambulance' was just wrongly spelled which is so irrelevant that it will never affect the quality of the story and the writing. Aside from that, it is undoubtedly and accurately written and checked therefore I can indeed say this book is an absolute joy to read. You will look forward to reading the next installments and I myself can't wait for it.

This is a well recommended book for those who love the myths and folklores, fantasy, magic and all. This is not the type of book that will coerce readers to finish it, but they will want to dedicate time for it so they can take it all in. To all young readers out there who want to give this a try, ensure guidance as there are some events that can be a little over the top. Nevertheless, this is highly recommended for everyone.
