Official Review: 21 Days Of Declaration &Prayer
21 Days of Affirmation and Prayer by Jada Weadd is a brief volume of daily encouraging affirmations for Christians. The book is only fourteen pages long.
I did not approach the book as someone hoping to attain inspiration for myself, as I am an agnostic. I read it with the mindset of someone looking for a gift for a Christian friend or family member. I asked myself whether I would consider giving or recommending this book to someone fitting that description.
In its current form, I give 21 Days of Affirmation and Prayer two out of four stars. The book isn’t bad, but there simply isn’t enough of it. I appreciate the author’s efforts in creating the affirmations. However, I feel that the book would reach a larger target audience if she were to include more such affirmations and re-release a new edition of the book after doing so. Most collections of affirmations include one verse for each day of the year.
I would also suggest that the author reformat the book to ensure that there is one affirmation per page for optimal readability. Some of the affirmations were broken into two parts. Given that each affirmation is only a paragraph long, concise formatting is crucial. I found no errors in the text and thus surmised that the book was professionally edited.
The thing that I liked best about 21 Days of Affirmation and Prayer was the author’s honest belief that focusing on daily motivations such as the ones included in her book will help readers improve their lives by honing in on the works of God rather than their personal troubles. The author is someone who strives to do her best despite her physical handicaps. She seems like a genuinely well-intentioned person.
The thing that I liked least about 21 Days of Affirmation and Prayer was its extreme brevity. Audiences seeking a book of daily affirmations are likely to want more than the small number of encouraging verses that the book provides. There isn’t anything wrong with the currently existing content of the book, but additional content would make it more substantial and thus more likely to attract the sort of audience who would benefit from such a book.
I would recommend this book for Christians seeking brief prayers to focus on at the start of their day. I would not recommend it for non-Christians or for those Christians seeking a text involving theological theory and discourse.
