I value family relationships a lot, consequently, I enjoy books that center on family dynamics. I can relate to Tom's need to be independent of outside help and interference; some people like to lean on themselves. I think I will relish this book despite the slow start.

What the River Wants by Arthur Byrd sounds interesting but unfortunately it's not my cup of tea. However, I will recommend it. Congratulations on the BOTD and thanks for such a great review.

I don’t mind the slow-burning stories at the beginning. It allows time to get to know the characters in an unhurried way. I look forward to reading this book. Thank you for your review!

This novel about an estranged family in the South sounds like it wins on many levels. A slower burn is probably perfect for this kind of story. Thanks for the review.

Family is a gift we shouldn't turn our backs on and the fact that the book's about family I can't help but grab a copy. The book might start off slow, but I believe it'll pick momentum as the story goes by. Thank you.

A coming-of-age novel with well-developed characters and several surprising, intriguing twists. I read the sample and enjoyed the author's writing style, but I am not interested in stories revolving around family dynamics and relationships. Therefore, I will pass on this one. A must-read for fans of the genre, though. 🙂 Thank you for the detailed review! :tiphat:

A fictional drama that revolves around a stubborn and self-reliant grandfather as well as members of his family with themes like reunion, growth, and many more. Lovers of this genre may enjoy reading this book. Thanks for an informed review.

The descriptions used to describe the atmosphere of the South makes the reader feel like they are sitting right in the middle of the Bayou.

The author waxes poetic in relating the story of Tom's family. A Genealogy class requires the teenage Lee to learn about his family history from his grandfather Tom. Lee discovers secrets buried for years. I wonder how my own family will fare if I do the same.

What a profound analysis! From your review, I can relate to Tom and his cabin by the river. It seems such a wonderful place while being intertwined with the importance of family. Sounds like an amazing book of the day!

The reasons for the self-isolation of a reclusive old man to a cabin along the river and the dynamics within his family sounds very interesting. I'm not sure I would enjoy the slow start, but many books along this line do seem to start slow. Thanks for an interesting and informative review!

This sounds like a good book, although I think with the slow start, I might have to have some free time on hand before starting this. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for a great review! A story about family dynamics is not really my cup of tea. Tom sounds like a man who is trying to cope with the loss of his wife and maybe needs a little space to do that. Sometimes the family wants to "fix" everything for someone who is attempting to readjust their life. I'm just guessing as I haven't read the book! However, I can sort of relate toTom wanting to isolate himself if that is the case. I enjoyed reading your review.
