Herai by Aaron D key. is a story created by an immortal, whose name was not revealed during the course of the story. This narrative features two worlds, one is called the ‘WITHOUT’ while the other is called ‘A BETTER PLACE.’ In the world ‘WITHOUT,’ the Old One is said to be absent, but is present in the other world. Both worlds are centered around Herai, and she’s seen to be in grave danger. The underground city, where both stories started out is created to be dark and highly fortified. The Outside is open and green but feared by the many underground dwellers in the city because of the savages that live there.

In one world, Herai, escorted by Monta ventures out into the Outside in order to come to a truce with the inhabitants to save her city. But things do not turn out as expected. In the other world, Herai was attacked by someone who tries to overthrow Glant, her father. Monta is charged with the task of investigating the crimes committed, assisted by the other characters. In this world, everyone is a suspect and you can’t be too sure who is telling the truth and who’s not.

This is a fantasy fiction book that is completely different from the others. I like the concept of the story, and I find it very enjoyable and gripping. Initially, I found the book very confusing due to the change in the characters’ behavior in both realities. Aaron has created them with strengths and weaknesses. The reader may discover himself relating to one character in one world and disliking a similar character in the other. This is what I enjoyed about the book. The tale was narrated in third person all-knowing but there were certain chunks of the story told in Herai’s viewpoint. This way I was able to see firsthand into her thoughts and experience her emotions.

I so much admire the author’s writing style. It is wonderfully expressive and picturesque. Despite the way, all the characters were described so differently in both realities, I rooted for Monta all the way. He is a survivor, loyal to his friends and trusting their judgment. Despite being despised by a city he so much wanted to belong to, that didn’t stop him from embracing the people. I found a few missing commas in the book but that did not disrupt my reading. Also, there is no profane language in this book.

Themes of love, friendship, homosexuality, war, and death were explored in the story. If you don’t have an open mind, I don't recommend this book for your enjoyment. I also do not recommend for readers under the age of 16 due to the homosexual relationship established by some of the characters. If you enjoy fantasy fiction, mystery, and a little suspense then you would enjoy this story. I’m delighted to rate Herai four out of four stars.

We will have our ups and downs, regardless of who we are. When we fall, we peel ourselves off the asphalt and get back up. If we need to cry, then we cry. And when we’re ready, we get back up and move forward again.

I find Koa to be a kind hearted person, probably because he was a healer even in both realities. He is someone that always saw the good in another person irrespective of their background and behaviour.

I respect authors who try to break from a normal writing style. I think I might be a bit confused at first with this one until my mind catches up to the change, but I am willing to give it a try! Great review!
