I just finished Beat Laid Plans by Lauren Blakely. It was a great book, loved the ending. It was a spicy story line with a lot of modern facts.

I just finished The Art of Inheriting Secrets by Barbara O'Neal. 3 out of 5 stars. It was enjoyable, and I love anything having to do with big old English manor houses and the secrets they hold. But there was A LOT going on in the book, too much really. It got to the point that the big reveal sort of got lost in the shuffle.

TOUGH LOVE
My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For
Susan Rice
Simon & Schuster, copyright 2019

4/10

Very selective memory of the past. Complains about bad news stories, and a drive to explain herself. Yes, she has a PhD, but she is not interested to have a solid policy historical debate. Strangely, it is more written for Republicans to defend herself than to Democrats wanting a honest history lesson.

The last thing I read was "At the Mouth of a Cannon". I gave it 4/4, although it was one of the hardest reads I've ever experienced because of the subject matter.

My review of Shriping tales xD, but for avoiding spam I would say Oz (The wonderful or something like that, you know, the wizard) as a introduction to Wicked. It was a 3/5, but it have parts that scare me a little if you ask me.

I finally finished Hannibal by Thomas Harris.

I gave it 1 star, due to its racism and (in my opinion) poor ending.

I just finished Adrift by Charlie Sheldon, I gave it 4 out of 4 stars. And I gave the book in the series before this one, Strong Heart, the same rating. I thought they were both excellent reads.

Paradise by Toni Morrison was one of those books that I just couldn't quite get into, but that may have had more to do with me and life's distractions than the fault of the novel.

Set in the small town of Ruby, Oklahoma, predominantly inhabited by African American families, it focuses on a group of women living in a building on the edge of town known as the Convent.

The novel begins with a posse of men attacking the Convent at dawn, with guns, to kill or frighten off the women. "They shot the white girl first" is the opening sentence.

The novel then proceeds to provide detailed background chapters on each of the key women characters, through which the reader learns about the history, context, citizens and relationships of Ruby.

Ultimately, it was never satisfactorily explained what drove a group of men in Ruby to become armed vigilantes so determined to drive of these harmless women.

At times, the writing was eloquent and moving, creating an intimate atmosphere, but I found there were too many dull parts for me to rate it any higher than 3.5 stars out of 5
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
