I was a contractor to the US Army in Saigon in 1968, the author gives a truthful account of what was really going on in that dreadful time and place.

Unfortunately, I don't gravitate to war stories. Based on the review though, fans of this specific genre will find it an fantastic and rewarding read. Great review!

I'm glad this is portrayed so realistically. I would be curious about the daily life of the soldier, but I'm not a fan of the genre. Therefore, I think I'll skip it. Still, your review was enjoyable. Thanks.

A true story of young American who joined the army after training sounds interesting. I also like that it shares a new perspective to the Army. Thanks for your review

I am not a fan of war stories, so I am going to pass on this one. I hope others really enjoy it though! Great review!

Thanks for the well-written review. I don't think that this book will be a good fit for me. I'm not that interested in military novels and so I think that I'm going to pass on reading this one.

I believe this book will be an excellent read. Paperwork is extremely important to the military and it should be interesting to see how the office works in a war zone. :techie-studyingbrown:

I love a good war story, especially when it is based on a true story and set in a true war era. Thanks for the review

I have no choice but to rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't find any reason to give it a lower rating
I found your final phrase, quoted above, quite funny. I've felt that way a few times when I've met someone who's a bit of a jerk but has so many redeeming qualities that you find yourself really liking the person in spite of wanting to.

After reading the Sample from the book I was anxious to come and read your review of the entire thing. Being a woman and a Canadian I must admit I know zippadee-dooda about the American military, so when I was reading a lot of the military terms and different units and ranks it seemed like the author had suddenly flipped into a foreign language. But I discovered that with a little extra concentration he takes the time to either enhance or repeat the things that are important to know. And underneath it all, "I have no choice but to" get this book.

Thanks for a frank and thorough review to help me decide.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee
And they sang a new song saying,
"You are worthy to take the book,
and to open its to seals,
for You were slain and have redeemed us to God,
by your blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and Nation." Rev. 5:9

i will take the advice to steer clear, since I'm not a fan of war stories. It's great the author wrote such relatable characters with complex stories. Thanks for the review.

Im not a fan of war stories. So I will just take the reviewers word for it that it might bore me. I am not familiar as well with the different terminologies in war.

I'll be honest - this isn't my normal type of read and I probably won't end up picking it up. It does sound interesting and I'm sure many people will enjoy it! Thanks for the review.
