HitWoman by Jeffrey A. Pitts is a thrilling assassination story that includes elements of betrayal, suspense, and a little romance. You are welcome to the world of assassination where anything is possible.

The protagonist, Julia Hampton, was teaching second grade in Astoria, Oregon, when she received the shocking news of Gerald and Bethany Hampton’s assassination (her parents). Not long afterwards, Meghan, Julia’s sister, was found murdered. When she strategically assassinated the culprits, Mohammed Kwanzas and Allen Park, The Company recruited her via a dangerous assassin, the gray man. She is to assassinate anyone importing and selling narcotics using the nickname J.

Furthermore, Manny assigns contract of signing clients to J and gets 20% of her net pay. Dawson, Julie’s neighbour, looks after Jake (Julie’s Dog) whenever she is on an assignment. Everything went smoothly with her and The Company not until J decided to retire. Now, she awaits her greatest fear - the gray man. On the other hand, the bond between the farmer, Dawson, and Jules (as he calls her) grow into something fascinating. I never suspected Dawson’s intention.

I selected this book because the cover page and title seemed inviting. Once I started, I kept opening the pages until the end. Pitts is a talented writer. He provided enough information about the minor characters. The focal characters, Julia and Dawson, are well described. There was no information overload for the reader. I like how the story flowed without unnecessary interruptions as all the backstories giving were necessary. Dawson’s family and friends are amazing. I admire Allen’s skill. The author’s style of writing ensured that the pace was balanced, not too slow or too fast.

My favourite scene was J’s final assignment after the rejection of her resignation. Imagine signing Tyree Wiggins, a giant, without the proper tool, a magazine (gun). In this scene, I was so curious to know what The Company was planning. Notwithstanding, Dawson’s word “Things are never what they seem” gave the story another intriguing phase.

Overall, I genuinely enjoyed this book, and there is nothing I dislike about this book. The storyline is unique and well-edited. I did not notice any grammatical or punctuation error in it. I am awarding HitWoman 4 out of 4 stars because the plotting is well-crafted. Loose ends were tied, and the book had a happy ending. For those who love action thrillers with a little bit of romance, this book will interest them.

Oh man, this book sounds like it's exactly what I like - a female assassin, mystery, family, and romance too (nice!). There are so many ways to do this wrong, and it sounds like in this book everything went right. Bonus: everything ties up at the end (HUGE fan of not having to read a bazillion other books to get the full story). Adding to my to-read list!

Great review. You did a wonderful job describing Hitwoman. Read it, LOVED it! I can't wait to read more. His way of writing a female character is amazing. You definitely fall in love with all the characters.

There's definitely a lot going on here that's fun. From assassinations to neighborly, or not so neighborly, intrigue, I can see the appeal of Julia's adventures as a hitwoman. The added anxiety of waiting for the gray man is a bonus, I think, and it definitely gives the book an extra something, from the sounds of it.
