I am torn on this book I really do wish there was more intrigue in the beginning. I struggled a bit.
None the less I am a fan of mythical creatures and the books they feature in, the story did come to you so i guess you told it as it was presented to you.

Although, I do not personally enjoy fantasy, I can tell by your review there are plenty of other things to focus on. The message this book is trying to convey is an important one and I'm glad to see someone tackling these issues in a way YA audiences can understand.

I love the sound of the plot and the subtle anti-racist / anti-prejudice message of the novel. The characters sound good too, and the idea of a gryphon falling in love with a winged horse outcast is original and compelling. The characters’ names make the book sound as if it’s targeted towards young children, though, and the constant use of the present tense I personally find jarring. Still, I think this is an author to watch.

This book sounds great. The author has built the world meticulously, not just the logistics and societal rules but also the commentary it makes on our world. Sunsky also sounds like an amazing character: strong, independent, wiser as she gets older, perhaps a bit rebellious and stubborn, a character that can be loved but is also realistic flawed. I never thought I'd enjoy a story about gryphons. But I've always had an interest in "racial" dilemmas, and "intercultural" relationships. The narrative of the sample I read was simply written, but there is something about the plot that made me want to read more. Not your usual slice of fantasy, but certainly an area I'd be willing to try.
