I agree with your point that sections were boring. When trying to read the sample, my eyes were glazing over from descriptions that seemed neverending. When we finally reached a point where it seemed to me that the actual story started, my interest slightly picked up, but only slightly. I just don't think this book is a good fit for me. Still, thanks for the review!

Even though slavery is outlawed, and illegal it is still around today. I admit that everything the author brings to life in the book occurred during the 1500s seems to read like a contemporary story. Political corruption, racial discrimination, slavery, and suffering appears to be an ongoing battle. Great review!

This definitely sounds like a hard book to read given vivid and detailed descriptions of the Slave Trade but very informative and enlightening as well. This definitely sounds like a thoughtful and engaging historical fiction novel. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Great review!

As a historical fiction lover and a full time traveler I find this book very intriguing. I love to learn more about faraway counties and their culture and history.

When I first red the title of the book I thought that it would be a children's book, but I then discovered that this was no t so. I like the title and I am interested in what it means. I also like the cross-cultural themes that the author creates between the drug cartels of South America and the aftermath of apartheid in South Africa. I also like that the author included the slave trade and how South America became one of the major regions that benefited from it.

Awesome review, actually slave trade and mistreatment of people because of color needs to be addressed because it's still happening today. I loved the way Mr. Motara was able to conquer mental illness despite his roles, inclusion of romance spices up this history fiction book. Thanks BOTD

Slavery is the most devastating event in the history. Common people doesn't have any freedom for their own lives. Africa is the most abused country on slavery. However, the plot of the story is not good for me.

I’m not really big on the subject matter, so I’ll probably skip this book. I like the historical aspect; the Atlantic slave trade is kind of interesting too.
