Only after reading this indepth review did I understand that the cover did not reflect what was in the story. Historical fiction isn't my favorite so can't say if I'd read the book, but definitely seems like it's a great read. Thanks for the wonderful review .

I like the discussion of African and South American culture as we follow the unfortunate events that befell Mr. Motara during his forced slavery. Its also good that the story highlights the serious issues of human trafficking.

This historical fiction seems like one I can enjoy reading. It must have required a lot of effort and will for South Africa's Mr. Motara to succeed in his diplomatic mission to Bolivia, during the time slave was at its peak. The fact that there are also elements of friendship and love (romance) makes me want to read it. Thank you for this wonderful review!

This is certainly a topic that I have never read a historical fiction book about, one man’s job as the first bridge between South Africa and Bolivia. It should be interesting on a historical, political, plot, and character development level. I also like that it handles some issues that are still very relevant today such as human trafficking. This book is probably not the kind of story I would want to read (not being a fan of historical fiction or romance) and the subject matter (slavery, racial prejudice, mental institutions, etc) sound a little too heavy, but the title is interesting.

Mr. Motara's job as a South African diplomat to Bolivia and his own personal difficulties sound like he had his hands full. The racial discrimination, government corruption, human trafficking, and the suffering of silver mine workers are heavy issues brought out in this historical fiction. The love relationship between Motara and Pam would give readers a break from all the tragic descriptions.
