There are many words to describe Lucy, none of them pleasant. Not only was she selfish and self centered, she was also ungrateful. The most important thing in her life was her job; the most important person in her life was herself. The fact that she only cared for herself made her unpopular. On the other hand, her sister was the complete opposite. Not only did she love, she loved wholeheartedly. Sometimes she cared and chose to do right, even when it cost her.

Lucy was a lawyer by profession committed to defending the innocent. A case that involved defending a priest accused of sexual assault was brought to her and this time she had no choice but to take it. Little did she know, this would be the beginning of a shift in her entire life.

The Spirit of Want, by William H. Coles, is an intriguing tale of Lucy who is a Lawyer, daughter, sister, wife and mother. From the start to the end I kept turning pages, curious to know what would befall Lucy. The author was able to clearly bring out her character together with that of the supporting characters. Major themes I found in the book include Love, family, death and betrayal. Also, the book has an aspect of the saying :what goes around comes back around.

I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. The plot is unpredictable and is filled with twists and turns that will intrigue the reader. It is also professionally edited and I only encountered two grammatical errors. My favorite part was how the author made the actors come to life and how relatable they were. However, I denied it a star because of a gap I felt in one point of the book. My issue was the association between Lucy and Hower Bain and how it came into being. It came as a shock especially because there was no build up that would indicate the rise of such a relationship. This was something I disliked about the read.

The audience I would recommend give this book a try are older teens and adults. I would not recommend it for a younger audience as it contains adult content. Despite having an element of romance, this book is not for someone looking for a happy storyline as it is not a fairytale kind of book. People looking for a weekend read can give this book a try. As much as this book did not rise to the level of my favorites, I liked it.

Yes it is engaging. No it doesn't contain a lot of courtroom elements,it mainly dwells on Lucy's personal life and how the choices she makes affect her and those around her.

The aspect of this book that appeals to me the most is how (and why) Lucy decides to take up the priest's case. I have not read this book, but it definitely sounds interesting. Great review!
