Review by Official_Sammie -- Nadeems journey
Nadeems Journey written by Sherine Anniruth, is an heart wrenching story of a loving mother losing her son to cancer. A true life story about a young man named Nadeem. He was a promising child right from his little age, winning a lot of awards and peoples heart due to his brilliancy and ways of life. He was later diagnosed of cancer in year 2015, at the age of 25 after scaling through different obstacles of life and getting his dream job. Sherine, the author of the book was Nadeem’s mum, she explicitly narrated Nadeem’s Journey in details, and one can always feel the emotion and struggles experienced at each moment of the book. The book contains 12 chapters with 158 pages.
The love Sherine expressed at every obstacle in Nadeem’s life journey was very heart warming. The role of a good mother in ones journey of life can not be over emphasised. She was supported by her family right from her Nadeem’s pregnancy to the period he struggled with cancer. Nadeem was a strong man who never let the health challenges he faced right from his little age deprive him of a good life. He excelled academically winning several awards, after toping his class in different levels. Despite the family moving from South Africa to Australia, he still maintain his academic excellence. He was a responsible figure to his siblings Darshan and Sadhana who looked up to him as a perfect role model. Nadeem develop psoriasis, and diagnosed of keratoconus, with an option of corneal transplant at a tender age. Despite this eye challenge, he was still a good a cricket player and captained the school team in his third year . During the time he battled with cancer, he was positive minded, fighting the disease and still try to look after his mother who dedicated her life in taking care of him at that time.
There is nothing i dislike about the book. I appreciate the author for her great effort, her documentation make the story easy to relate and very convincing. She stated the dates and time of different test carried out on Nadeem during his repeated visit to the hospital and test labouratory. Pictures revealing his transistion a from lovely, healthy and passionate young man till his last moments before he passed on. She was also able to name and describe each test Nadeem went through from his first sickness till he was diagnosed of Cancer. It’s a painful thing Nadeem had to die after so much love, struggle and pain. Indeed life is short. The book help me understand how people with incurable diseases feels and think at each moment, and how they should be taken care of. Nadeem’s Journey have really change my life.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 star. The book is not stereotyped to a particular group of people, age or believe. I recommend the book to any medical practitioner who desires to know more about cancer, also to people with incurable diseases or know someone battling with it. Most medical test and terms used in the book were explained at the end of the book. There were no typographical error in the book, but there were repetitions of some sentences.
