Official Review: Flight Medicine: the Pursuit of Excellence
Flight Medicine: The Pursuit of Excellence is a book that narrates the life experiences and career of the author, Dan Turner. This book is about a man who found delight in his job, and his only regret was not doing it longer due to circumstances beyond his control. The book tells the story of an industrious man who became one of the best in his field. His lifestyle touched so many lives positively.
In this book, the author's journey towards his dream career started at the age of 20 years. He happened to be in an environment that fueled that passion. Dan did not only know what he wanted but was also proactive about it. He went about making the necessary preparations for a career change. Furthermore, Dan details step by step how he changed his career as an electrician's apprentice and picked interest in the nursing career.
I admire how each chapter starts with a Bible verse that highlights what the chapter is all about. Also, his description of how he was able to wear scrubs was encouraging. The simplest things about the job gave him joy, and I could feel his excitement. Everything felt alien to him, but he overcame through perseverance. Readers can learn a thing or two from this book
In Chapter 3, Dan made a statement “I not only wanted to be good clinically, but I also wanted to do it with a smile on my face.” With this, I had more insight into his personality and how much he loved his job. Also, the chapter talked about the scope of practice and very interesting subheadings like how to be a good team member. This chapter is my favourite.
Although I am not in the medical field, there is nothing I did not like about this book. Dan has an amazing sense of humour. There are a few things I appreciate about the author. One of which is his ability to ask questions and research when he is unsure. Also, his dedication and aspirations are worthy of emulation.
This book will be of great help to everyone, and that is why I will not limit it to only people in the medical field. People who are changing careers could benefit from the words of wisdom in the book. The author made sure the book wasn’t too graphic. His outlook on life and his job were encouraging. Since the book is very informative with no grammatical or punctuation error, I rate Flight Medicine: The Pursuit of Excellence 4 out of 4 stars.
