I agree that the social issues you mentioned such as extreme pressure on kids to perform well in exams in fear of parental reprisal are highly relevant and should indeed be condemned.

While it makes sense to portray art and pursuing your passions as an escape to a world where dreams come true, portraying the real world as a bleak place where achieving your dreams is doomed to fail no matter how hard you try would not sit well with me. I hope the book doesn't portray life that way. Either way, I can't get past the rough writing.
