Gear review, but I’m not into war stories so I think I’ll pass on this one

This book about the life of a soldier during the Civil War seems to be interesting.

Although I am a fan of historical fiction, I don't enjoy books about war, so I'll likely pass on this book. I'm glad it featured a well-written story that was professionally edited. Thank you for the very detailed review!

That is the way the cookie crumbles. But I hope we overcome it someday. This is how the writer makes me feel. Someone else would feel this way too, especially when morale and imperfection are highlighted. War is just war. The story is a masterstroke. Thanks for the great and articulate review

This book sounds promising. Coming from a retired military personnel, I'd like to read this.

There have been many books written about the Civil War, but I have yet to read about one involving a person that was not the President or a General. The name Winfield Scott Hancock sounds familiar to me, but I have not read about him. I like how the author managed to seamlessly tell a true story, but make it interesting enough that it wouldn't sound like a history lesson.

Thanks for your review. It sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed this war novel. It was interesting to note the care that Hancock took to communicate with his family.

I suppose the qualities of pride and arrogance are necessary evils in successful war management. This sounds an interesting insight into how individuals can sway the outcomes of war. Thank-you for your review.

Thanks for the review, but I'm just not into historical fiction, especially when it's military-based, so I won't be reading this "chronicl[e of] the life, military and short political career of Lieutenant General Winfield Scott Hancock".

It is an open secret that most military leaders came to the fore during the American Civil War and each has a nostalgic tale to narrate.
Major General Winfield Scott Hancock was a West Point educated law graduate but his experience as an infantry officer during the Mexican War inspired him to parlay his career from the corridors of justice to one as a professional soldier.
An apple of his parent's eyes who commanded respect among his peers and invoked neurosis among his nemesis', he easily juts out as the De facto Premier Union Commander and a future presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in 1880 elections( despite his misgivings about seeking the political office).
Just like most decorated battle heroes, his story is one of dedication to country first and a commitment of selfless service!
Priceless read in my humblest of submission.

The plotting is well done. It is an action-packed historical fiction book chronicling the life, military and short political career of Lieutenant General Winfield Scott Hancock. Great review
