For me, I felt as if it gave the adventure a "bigger than man" (pun intended ) aura that made it feel more important, or epic. Also it does give another perspective on the main character as a religious man, which I feel is a definite plus.

Personally I am very religious so the quotations of religious text so frequently in the book made it ground me into reading it. Anyone with Strong religious backgrounds would find this book highly enjoyable and I commend the author for using this form of writing.

I agree - and I liked how there were normally two quotes about the same theme but usually from different sources. This was quite interesting!

I personally don't think it was an issue since it agreed with the famous quote and was worth reflecting on. It could easily be skipped if anyone found it offensive.

What is your opinion of the biblical passages quoted at the beginning of each new mission?

Quoting from the most famous book in the world is always a plus. Especially if the passage is well chosen. There are a lot of non-religious people quoting the Bible in ways that no one could deny they were appropriate. There is a lot of wisdom in that book, even if you are not a christian. In fact there's a scroll within the Bible called precisely Book of Wisdom.
