This sounds like a great story for younger readers, possibly also for younger female readers. Although this is classified as science fiction, it is more accurately, fantasy, as it includes some completely unscientific concepts, such as the character being able to transform into an animal. The review doesn't really make it clear as to when this story is set in time. I assumed it was in the present time, but if Sophia is not the only alien at her school, then I imagine that the world knows about them and it is in the future. Sounds like a great fantasy, with a lot of magic to it and the world that it is set in. The review was long, but interesting to read.

I like the plot of this story and the variety of characters. I also like that it is an all female group that does not embody the damsel in distress model that is usually found. I am interested in more books by this author going forward. I like your review and how invested you became in the story.

Sophia Violet and the Fiery Orb by Evangeline Greene sounds like a heartwarming read. The book is well-written and I love that about it. Unfortunately, I won't read it but I will recommend the book. Congratulations to the author on the BOTD. Great review.

I've never been a sci-fi fan but recently I have tried a few out. This sounds like a really good book. I am curious how Sophia found out the secret to the orb is in her violet eyes! The plot sounds intriguing. I may have to check this one out based on your excellent review! :tiphat:

Sounds like a fun read. I would probably buy it for my girls, but YA is not for me.

This sounds like a fantastic novel to read! I read the first few chapters as a sample and I definitely want to keep reading. I agree with the review that the protagonist is a dynamic character. I am an avid fan of this genre. With the shift changing and transformation into all types of animals, I am anxious to get back to reading this book. I especially like the quote in the review, "But no one, no matter how much they try, can be something they are not." Thank you for the excellent review.

I usually gravitate towards books on friendship especially true female friendships. However, I won't be reading this as fantasy isn't of particular interest to me. Great review by the way.

Think I'll add this to the shelves. I enjoy coming-of-age fantasies when told the right way. Reading what it's like to be an animal can be thoughtful and interesting.

This sounds like a great book for teenagers who like urban fantasy. It's not something that I would like though.

Additionally, the themes of the story offer powerful and thought-provoking messages about prejudice, friendship, the toxicity of secrets and deception, and finding oneself. Early in the story, Sophia reflects on her fears of school shootings. She also notices how desensitized society is to mass shootings. Later in the story, the importance of self-worth is explored. “But no one, no matter how much they try, can be something they’re not. Being true to yourself is one of the most important lessons to learn in life.” These messages are relevant and include topics that teenagers and adults can relate to.
These are all such important topics for teenagers and young adults that are striving to find their identity, especially with all the pressure that social media puts upon them.
I'm not much of a sci-fi fan but I can see the value of this novel. Thanks!
