The subject of self-acceptance is one that everyone will have to deal with at some point. How we get through it is dependent on a lot of variables.
Beneath the Surface sure lives up to its name in exploring this theme and its relations like sexuality.

The sample only dealt with the preface to the book, so there wasn't much to go one except that the book would be reflecting on life in various ways. It seems, from your review, that it deals with very weighty topics such as depression and LGBTQ issues. Although it is very far from my genres of interest, I'm sure that it will find its readers. The book seems to me a bit depressing with such topics as mental health, rejection, fear, suicide, loss, grief and this is definitely not for me.
