Nowadays, it's not easy to find great fiction books without profanity and explicit sex scenes so this is a nugget of gold for me. The sample I read was really nice.

This book sounds fascinating. I have always been drawn to books about the Holocaust, whether fictional or fact. With this author's connection to the history of Putten and the photos you mentioned she includes, I have to put this on my reading list. Thank you for your honest perspective on the characters as well.

The title of the book already briefs one of a sense of sorrow. It takes us back to the era of Hitler and how a failed ambush brought agony to the people of Putten. History always gives us lessons to be learnt . It sounds like an interesting read though I might pass it due to the emotional aspect. Great review.

There have been many books written about this disastrous war. And I am sure there can be more, as individual experiences differ, beyond the general distress and fear and uncertainty.
There is indeed a matter of balance in creating credible characters and too much of a good thing sometimes is too much.
It is reassuring that that character became more of a human and less of a superwoman later on.

I would have gladly jump on the opportunity to read new documentary historical fiction, because I seriously like this genre, if only it wasn't related to war crimes. Crimes against humanity is the only topic of history I will never have any interest in.
