I think historical fiction is a great way to teach about real events in history. I am curious to learn more about the attack on this town. Great review!

I've read lots of stuff about the war crimes perpetrated by the Nazis. This was one of them -- decimating a while settlement just to prove a point. I love the plot of this book and I'm likely going to add it to my shelf.

This book is a military book. It's about Nazi Germany. Adolf Hitler was the notorious German leader behind the Nazi propaganda. Thanks for the review.

I've heard of this story. Would be interesting to read about it in a historical fiction book.

I absolutely loved the sample and made me want to complete the book in one sitting. Nazi era war stories are one of my favourite ones to read and this one is no exception. I agree that the character of Janneke seemed too Mary Sue in the beginning. Thank you for the review.

Desperate situations brings the best out of individuals and this novel is about one of those actual events. Stories about WW2 is one of my favorite themes and this novel fits the bill. Thanks for the very well written review! :tiphat:

I really love historical fiction about Nazis and this one is a story I never heard. I'm really interested in the book. And I appreciate that the story is based on true events and experience of the real people who suffered. Thank you for a awesome recommendation.

I feel this book is a story of the strength of the Putten people. The fact that they survived the ambush of their town by the German invaders is testament of the resolve of the human psyche and spirit. Nice review.

This book is a reminder of the horrors that happened during Hitlers time. The current life we exist in right now is a definition of different choices people made before. This is a great book everyone must read to best understand wars and its impact.

A great book exposing the evil the Nazis enacted on Putten, a village innocently accused of ambush. The land was laid waste and its men sent off to wat camps to die of labor. This book properly showed the reason why many villages have lots of waste land and untraced family lineage. Great book I must say and highly recommended to everyone

After reading the sample of the book and your review, this book sounds like an interesting book. It reminds me of The Diary of Anne Frank which I enjoyed reading. Because of being a historical fiction about true events of Hitler's horrible massacres and work camps, it would be difficult to read, stirring up many emotions. But, I look forward to reading this book. Thanks for the great review.
