How Will Santa Know? by Dawn Jung is a children’s picture book about Benny, a young boy who worries that Santa won’t know it’s Christmas because there’s no snow on the ground. Although Benny’s parents tell him not to worry, he stays up all night waiting for snow. During his wait, he is visited by a few other mythical creatures who are also confused by the lack of snow. Just when Benny begins to give up hope that Santa will know it’s Christmas, someone comes to the rescue and grants his wish, saving Christmas.

The best part of this book is the rhyming the author uses to tell the story. The rhymes flow well, and the rhythm is consistent throughout the book. I could imagine a parent reading this book out loud to a child on Christmas Eve. I also enjoyed the illustrations, which were cartoon pictures of Benny, his family, and his visitors on Christmas Eve.

My only criticism of this book is that the story didn’t unfold the way I expected. I thought that the purpose of the book was to reassure kids that Santa doesn’t need to snow to know it’s Christmas and deliver presents. I thought this was a clever idea, as many kids don’t have snow on Christmas Eve. However, Benny’s worries are not assuaged by his parents’ reassurances, and at the end of the story, there is snow. Although I liked the creative way the story progressed, I would not recommend that a parent give this book to any kid who’s actually worried that the lack of snow may interfere with present delivery.

Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the writing and illustrations, and I didn’t find any errors in the book. However, I felt that I had to remove a star because the story doesn’t teach kids that there doesn’t need to be snow for Santa to know that it’s Christmas and may actually make them think the opposite.

I would recommend this book to parents of kids ages six to nine. Parents could also read the book to younger kids who aren’t able to tackle it on their own yet. If you kid is confident in Santa’s ability to deliver presents with or without snow, it might be fun for them to read about Benny’s wild encounters with a cast of mythical creatures who are confused about what day it is.

How will Santa Know by Dawn Jung is a remarkable work of art: the colourful illustrations married with poetry in the form of rhyme for storytelling. It also focuses on the earnest expectations of the young which is replicated by Billy's expectation of snow. Highly entertaining for audiences of 0 to six plus years of age! Very exciting and wholesome reading! Exceptional!

I wonder how Christmas would be without snow. Quite boring and disturbing I must confess. Now, imagine a child in that scenario, a loose canon of worry. I'm glad that Christmas was fixed cos it would have been a disaster
