Official Review: When God Speaks, are you listening?
From the time Kathy Mitchell was a child, she knew she wanted to become a teacher. Twice her dreams were shattered. Once by an eighth-grade teacher, then by her high school counselor. Ultimately she knew teaching was her calling. Kathy got her degree and loved being a teacher. One night, while she was sleeping, God gave Kathy the title for this book. For ten years. God kept reminding Kathy of the past and putting the title of this book in her mind until she finally gave in, and that is how When God Speaks, Are You Listening?: My Story With God by Kathy Mitchell came to fruition. It is a beautifully written story of the many different ways God speaks to us, and of the author's personal experiences with God.
Kathy shares the first time she felt God's presence in the room with her. She also shares memories of a painful secret when she was eighteen; of mission trips to Guatemala; women's retreats; a scare with her husband's health; her first grandchild, and how she knew God was speaking to her in each of those situations.
I was captivated by this book. The author starts every chapter with a verse from the Bible, which is what I liked most. Her story is compelling and easy to follow. I didn't want to put the book down, especially as I read about the mission trips to Guatemala, and how the children there were so loving and thankful for those who came to teach them. The book is a quick and easy read with seventeen short chapters in fifty-nine pages (eighty pages-Mobi version), yet it is full of remarkable experiences Kathy has had in her life. She has excellent storytelling skills as she shares her fears and triumphs, and makes each memory come to life for the reader. Kathy begins and ends each day with prayer and devotions and dedicates her life to serving others.
There wasn't anything I disliked about this book. The memories the author shares are heartwarming and inspirational. I found a couple of sentences with a missing word, and there were a few formatting glitches, but overall, the book is well-edited. I enjoyed reading this book so much that I am confident I will read it several times. For the reasons mentioned above, I am pleased to rate When God Speaks, Are You Listening? by Kathy Mitchell 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to all age groups and Christians of all religious affiliations. It is a beautifully written inspirational book; however, it may not appeal to non-believers.

Thanks, and thank you for commenting. You said the key phrase - "too busy to listen to God." I know that is often me!Splendour0606 wrote: ↑13 May 2020, 16:07 I am intrigued. I would love to know Kathy's experiences with God and listening to his voice. Most times humans are too busy to listen to God, rather we just talk our problems and run off.I will read this book soon.Great review.
