For a long time now, I have been a big fan of vampire stories and movies. I love vampires and it's weird. With their aversion to light, sparkling skin and sharp fangs, these creatures can live forever and are feared for many reasons but mostly for their thirst for blood. Christopher J. Penington in this book, The Hand Bringer, tells a vampire story in a unique and interesting way. He discusses not only vampirism but also aspects of time travel and romance.

The story unfolds with Peter Hadrian, a Dallas cop who is also the main character in the story, responding to a distress call. He is bitten by a man in a rather mysterious circumstance. We learn later in the story that this man was actually a vampire. Together with his friend Luke, who is also found at the scene, they are taken into a military quarantine facility for treatment. Through a secret organization dubbed the Apocalypse Suppression Organization (A.S.A), Peter is genetically re-engineered before being sent back to medieval times in Romania with one mission, to kill Vlad Dracula. In return, the organization would help him find his lost son. Find out whether Peter succeeds in his mission by reading this beautiful novel.

I really enjoyed reading this book and could hardly put it down. The different aspects of time travel, vampirism, mystery and romance were put together to make this book stunning. The story was well built-up and smartly written. I liked and enjoyed the author's style of writing. I think a lot of research went into the writing of the book as is evident from the quality of work presented. It is a fiction book, yes, but with a bit of historical and scientific facts which give it a small sense of realism. The editing of the book was done professionally and almost perfectly.

It is difficult to point out a thing I disliked about the book. The characters were well-developed and the stories well built-up at just the right pace. I found the story quite fascinating to follow as the writer went out of their way to describe and explain most of the events that took part in the book. The story, however, requires a lot of keenness to understand. This could be a good thing considering this is a science fiction book, scientists are supposed to be keen. The vocabulary used was sometimes difficult for those who are not scientists or historians to comprehend. I again think it was necessary considering the genre of the book.

I gave the book a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The book is captivating, intriguing and smartly written. The different themes discussed in the book made is so unique and more satisfying to the reader. The well-developed characters and humor in the book make it even more special. I'd recommend the book to lovers of vampire stories like me. Historians and scientists could also learn a lot from the book. I think the book is really great, one of the best vampire books I've read in a while.
