Percy Jackson vs. Harry Potter: In a New Way

I think that Harry Potter will rule. Percy Jackson is good and is unique, but I think Harry Potter will beat Percy. The thing with Harry Potter, is that the series is a classic. Harry Potter has been around forever and will always live on!

Harry Potter will win. Most people know about Harry Potter because of the movies. Percy Jackson only got two movies. Harry Potter is a classic. Most people have no idea about Percy Jackson. And the books are amazing for both the series but Harry Potter is more detailed and covers the entire journey of the main character.

I like both the series, but, nothing can ever beat JK Rowling's style of writing in Harry Potter. I connected with Harry on his journey and practically grew up with him.

Comparing both Harry Potter and Percy Jackson is new to me. I understand why they are compared to one another. Both protagonists are heroes that share the same trait, brave and courageous. They want to help their worlds become a better place which is a noble thing for any protagonist. Those concepts for the main character of the story can be inspiring for readers but one series is based on Greek Mythology and the other is based on a world filled with magic! It's interesting to read about both of them but I would not compare them to each other besides the fantasy concept and with their complicating family history. Harry Potter didn't grow up with his parents but that is what makes things complicated for him is the way how they died. Now, for Percy Jackson, he has a mother but he also has daddy issues and a step-brother. That is just a complication in general with the history of Greek Mythology, that is beside the point. Both series are amazing to read in general for anyone who likes exciting adventures and lots of action.

I absolutely love both series. I grew up reading both Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, so all of the characters are very dear to me. They are very similar in the sense that both give the reader a chance to grow up with the characters and experience firsthand how they evolve throughout their stories. The difference, is that while Percy Jackson is more modern, Harry Potter is considerably more timeless simply due to the fact that most magical events happen in close proximity to Hogwarts or other areas of the wizarding world. It teaches readers that love is important regardless of it coming from friends or family, and that without human connection you can succumb to fear and hate which will eventually drain one's humanity. Percy Jackson serves as a reminder that families are not perfect and can come in many shapes and sizes. It shows that in the real world you may have to hide who you are but that in the end there will always be someone who is there for you. On a lighter note, I think the best aspect of both series was the fact that any romantic aspects took time to build up and never took over the intricate plots of the stories. The romance was kept simple and realistic which was a very nice contrast to the surreal and magical components brought by the remainder of the plot. There is honestly no way to choose one series over the other as they both each other out in terms of the morals they represent.

I really liked them both, but I see PJ as a lighter read, whereas HP is overall a more detailed and nuanced work of fiction.

If I wanted a fun adventure I would definitely choose Percy, but if I wanted a more complex story, I would definitely choose Harry.

Well... It's kinda hard to choose between the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. Both of them are based on fiction. Harry Potter is a wizard whose story revolves around the enchanting wizarding world, whereas Percy Jackson is a modern day demigod whose story revolves around Ancient Greek Gods and Greek Heroes. In my personal view, Harry Potter is better than Percy Jackson. Maybe Harry's magic overpowered Percy's heroism a bit. But both the books are very close to my heart. I advise to read both the books and then decide which one you liked better.

Both books fulfilled the purpose: entertainment. However, they are both terribly written, and can in no way be considered literature. Sentence structure, originality, and all-around writing lacked any sense of mastery in language. I have spoken with other English majors and literature enthusiasts, and they see both books the same as me. They appeal to younger readers, but do not quite fit the expectations that more experienced and language-appreciative readers have. Additionally, I have seen how Harry Potter has taken ideas from Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed them when I was younger, but with a greater grasp on the English language, I see that they aren’t as deserving of acclaim.

It's really hard for me to compare them because I love them equally. They both have a lot of things to offer, and are exellent in my eyes. I was excited reading Percy Jackson, and I am equally excited reading Harry Potter.
I do like the HP movies more though... I hope the PJ series will be as good as the books!

The thing about Percy Jackson is that the series is long and has so many spin-offs. I love that we get to spend more time in that world.

For me I thought Percy Jackson was much better. But I'm not saying that Harry Potter isn't amazing because it is! But Percy Jackson has monsters and Greek mythology. It's just amazing and I enjoyed ever single minute I was reading it.

I completely agree. I loved the Harry potter series, but there was something about Percy Jackson that I could not get enough of. I never seem to outgrow it.
