Review by Chege_wanjiku -- The Hand Bringer
The hand bringer by Christopher J.Penington tells the tale of a bereaved police officer who has the mission of saving the world from a vampire invasion. This is a time when these human-like creatures have been growing at an alarming rate and new infections almost out of control. Therefore, the only way possible to control them is by traveling back in time to kill the original vampires.
The novel starts at a high note where Peter Hadrian is in his patrol car. He gets a message from the dispatcher to check out a disturbance near where he is. As he hurriedly starts his car, he is unaware that the following turn of events would alter his life. He encounters a creature who calls him," Hand Bringer". He has no idea why the creature calls him that.
Thereafter, Peter and his friend Luke, are snatched up by a government agency and put away into a military base. Peter soon learns that his journey to this moment began when he was a child. He is informed that he had been bitten by a vampire. But thanks to genetic manipulation by Apocalypse Suppression Administration(ASA), he evolves into a man of mighty strength. He is therefore given the mission to go back in time and rid the world of vampires. When this mission is complete, he hopes to be given a chance to go back in time and save his son who is alleged to have died in spite of his body never being recovered.
What I loved most about this book is the wonderful flow of stories. I couldn't bring myself to put this book down. The action is suspenseful, the characters are fully realized, and the historical aspects are clearly the outcome of thorough research. It also incorporates other characters who serve to bring out various aspects of life. This includes humor, joy, pain, love, and hope. Christopher also seems to have done thorough research on the Ancient Romanian culture as that's where the book is set.
There was nothing that I did not like about this book. what I found most intriguing was the way vampirism was presented in the novel. Rather than being a supernatural element, it was given a scientific strategy. This book is professionally edited. Therefore, I rate this book4 out of 4. I recommend this book to lovers of science fiction. This is the ultimate level of science that we hope to reach someday, time travel. However, young readers should seek parental guidance due to the status of sensual content.
