Review by Sheetal_22564 -- The Hand Bringer
The Hand Bringer, by Christopher J. Penington, is a historical fiction filled with war, time travel and vampires.
Peter Hadrian, a policeman, gets engaged in an ambush that costs him almost his life. Luke McElroy helps out his friend and later they find themselves in ASA under unknown circumstances.
Apocalypse Suppression Administration, ASA, is a division that deals with extraordinary instances that are disruptive for humankind. Peter is chosen to be the one to develop antibodies against the virus that causes vampirism. He along with Luke, Bat, Scott and Dr. Kolemis travels back in time to eradicate the origin of this gruesome disease because Peter is the cure.
On this journey, the hand bringer's skills are put to test to find love, betrayal, and solace. Will he succeed? Or the earth will be doomed forever?
The character of Peter was a brave one. He's already in so much loss and to rectify it, he takes this chance. On this journey, Peter has gained and lost equally, but I guess he got a happy ending whereas other characters did not. The character of Peter went under very hard circumstances making him the more auspicious protagonist here. Vampires were definitely here like an antagonistic factor apart from few exceptions. All characters were intelligently penned by Christopher J. Penington. His concept of medieval Romania was also diligently present. All other scenes and scenarios were present with proper clarification too.
The Hand Bringer is all about science and vampires more prominently. This concept of vampires is presented in a scientific manner and way too different from the usual crucifix and garlic mentality. The explanation for the science behind vampirism methodology and seenjites is presented with rational properties. Only this logical reasoning enables readers to understand the main reason why did they actually traveled back in time.
I rate this book 4 out of 4. The best thing about this book was that instead of being a genre-specific, it did touch other major field lines like war, love, guilt, remorse, solace, and betrayals. The storyline was filled with many turning points, hence, it's an engaging book and a must-read.
Mild erotic scenes were present. Vulgar words were also present. Disturbing scenes caused due to violence can also be found. The book was well-edited and had a good format. I'd recommend this book to late teenagers and adult readers. People who like science fiction, historical fiction, romance, thrillers, and fantasy can also give this book a big yes!
