Who is currently the best fantasy writer?

I don't know your take on this but I'm picking Brandon Mull. He has written some awesome stuff in the last few years. The Five Kingdoms series, The Beyonders series, and so on.

The above mentioned are great books with high ratings. Due to his simple writing style and progressive character development, Mull has proved himself a great author.

You can have a try at one of his books to prove me wrong.I will also suggest Suzane Collins, add your own suggestions please.

Brandon Sanderson is, in my humble opinion, the greatest fantasy writer of all time. His characters and magic systems are stunningly complex, but presented in a way that makes them feel so natural.

I've been looking for a new fantasy series. I'll take your recommendation of The Five Kingdoms and give it a try.

My two favorites of all time have been David Eddings (Belgariad, Diamond Throne series, etc) and Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time series). But I greatly enjoyed reading a few by Brandon Sanderson. I was hooked on the Game of Thrones series long before it was popular, so while I like George RR Martin, his story is excellent but his writing is not quite as strong as DE or RJ.

There are many more fantasy authors I have enjoyed, but very few that I actively dislike reading.

Patrick Rothfuss and George RR Martin get my votes. But, of course, I still consider JRR Tolkien the master.

I loved the Eragon Series by Paolini, even thought it's deemed middle school. Brandon Sanderson is one of the best ever fantasy writers

George R R Martin definitely deserves to be mentioned, but right now I don't think fantasy is doing that well. Nothing comes to mind that's super popular anyway. I agree that no one can top J R R Tolkien.

R.A. Salvatore of course. His characters are all beautiful, even the less popular/ unknown ones. He has made me feel for literal nobody characters in as little as three pages.
The imagery of his writing makes it feel like you are standing right in the middle of it. His fights and battles scenes are so amazingly choreographed down to the last minute details, and his world building is utterly sublime.
Yes his books tend to be a little short (averaging around 350 pages or so) but he always leaves me excited for the next installment. I have tons of favorite authors but he will forever be number one in my book

I'm sure many will say George R. Martin for his Ice & Fire series. The depth of his books and his ability to surprise is impressive. Whether or not it's my favourite, I don't know.
I want to read the Wheel of Time series, though 15 books is a heavy load. I heard it's similar to Lord of the Rings. I doubt anyone can surpass Tolkien.

I know Brandon Sanderson should be the default answer for fantasy fans but for me, I just loved Patrick Rothfuss' prose. RA Salvatore, on the other hand, is quite good in creating characters and I loved his Demon Wars saga.

I've never heard of Brandon Sanderson or his books, but I'm looking forward to reading them! Especially since you are not the first person to say the magic is complex but consistent. Imagine how many notes he has to keep track of everything

I know they both write YA, but Cassandra Clare and Sarah J. Maas are incredible fantasy writers.
