As a debut novel, I'm pleased to see that author added all the ingredients required to make a good fictional story. Congratulations on BOTD.

The concept of a birthmark causing the Queen to conceal her identity, while she is working as a lethal assassin, is quite interesting. I think I'd enjoy her adventures. Too bad about the inconsistent characterization; there is so much potential for a strong female character here. Thanks for an honest and thorough review!

This sounds like a great fantasy to read. I’m interested in seeing how the characters develop since there are apparent conflicting portrayals.

"Crown of Crimson by Rose Reid is the first book in The Afterlight Chronicles. Technically. The prequel, The Swordmaster, was just published and tells the back story of one of the characters." This reminded me of the Star Wars films.
Sci-Fi is not my favorite genre. I think I'll pass this one.
Thank you for the insightful review.

This sounds like a believable and well constructed fantasy novel, which is book one of a new series. I will be interested to see how the system of magic works in this book. Most fantasies seem to develope their own systems these days. The heroine and main protagonist sounds a bit undeveloped from the review, but I am sure that she will mature in time, during the series. Your review was very constructive and interesting to read.

Sounds interesting, I like dystopian novels but not so sure about the assassin part.

Any review that piques my interest in a book, such as this one, cannot be easily dismissed. Although I may not find these types of books to my immediate liking, my daughter does and I'll be passing on the review to her.
