"The low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet is a proven way to lose weight." This statement was culled from research done by PubMed Central, a highly respected database from the National Institutes of Health. Beyond this fact, I've seen the wonders of the ketogenic diet (or keto diet) through my cousin. She was able to lose a lot of weight in a short time using this process. It's one thing to know that the keto diet can help you shed excess weight. However, knowing how to implement it for the best result is a different kettle of fish. This is where The Ideal.Fit Recipe Book: 175 Delicious Keto Recipes by Ami Hendrix-Grimes comes to bear.

As the title suggests, this book is a compilation of 175 amazing recipes for people who desire to lose weight — and a lot more. These recipes are grouped into appetizers, breakfast meals, lunch portions, and dinner servings. The reader is first introduced to the basics of the keto diet. The author does a great job of highlighting some essential points to help anyone who isn't familiar with this concept. She lays a solid foundation on which she builds the recipes. In this book, the author takes the reader on a journey through the timelines of the keto diet regime — from its first usage to its global proliferation of today. The reader gets to understand the 'what,' the 'why,' and the 'how' of the keto diet. The author also explains the potential risks of switching to a ketogenic lifestyle while advising that proper medical consultation be done.

At first glance, I thought this book was a regular recipe book. However, this book could also serve as a cooking guide for keto meals. The reader wouldn't only know what to eat, but also how to prepare it. The cooking instructions were detailed and devoid of dense culinary jargon — you don't need professional skills to make the meals.

What I liked most was the overall arrangement of the book. It was structured so that the reader quickly got to specific aspects of the book without flipping through many pages. For instance, if the reader needed a particular recipe for lunch, they could follow the link from the table of contents, and the link would take them to the desired recipe. I would liken this book to a tour guide through the world of the ketogenic diet.

Given that I've seen so many recipe books, I was on the lookout for what made this book stand out. I did find two things that I seldom see in most of the recipe books I've come across. First, the author included food tips at strategic points in the book. They provided little breaks from the long list of recipes. Secondly, the author included a shopping guide to help the reader compare prices before making a buying decision. This was thoughtful of the author.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. It was written well and edited professionally. I gladly give it four out of four stars. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a switch to the ketogenic lifestyle. This book comes in handy for people who are undergoing a weight loss regime.
